i think a lot about my first thought bubble festival where me and my friends were sat on the floor waiting in a queue for a talk to finish and I'd brought illimat with me (previously unopened, never played before) and we decided to get it out and give it a go.
and then james d'amato swooped in out of nowhere (literally swooped, he was wearing a large woollen cape), and said if we had any questions about the game he would do his best to answer them, and jokingly i said "can you show us how to play?"
and he did. he just sat himself onto the floor next to me and ran us through two rounds of the game.
he was so thorough and patient and kind. it was just such a wonderful interaction. it's one of those ones that stays with you and makes you believe in the inherent good of humanity, yk?
The Luminaries have always been one of my favorite parts about Skyjacks. Their presence within the world as important stories and real, active figures that influence the world melds with the game mechanic of drawing oracle cards and interpreting their themes for outcomes as opposed to a roll of the dice.
Anyways, today I created an updated page for the Luminaries on the new wiki. The list is now up to date and includes The Windworn and The Shepherd, I also added a point describing inspiration for each of them! In the future I want to add descriptions of each Luminary as it manifests within the world, and if they're significant enough like The Forest Queen point to a full page.
The Luminaries are many things. Within the show, Luminary cards are representations of the most powerful, central stories to the world of Sp
After spending all day with this I'm feeling very inspired to develop my own oracle deck for a world. Definitely need to listen to the Dice Breaker episode that James was on discussing Invisible Sun's Sooth Deck.
Another question - lol we’re trying to start a mini rpg, what exactly IS an okus?
An okus in the world of Spéir is a piece of a person's soul rendered into an object. It is a demonstration of resolve and vulnerability to a gesture, deal, or wager.
In Illimat, the board game that inspired Spéir, an okus is a token that players compete over to gain points. The "traditional" idea is that each player must take a small object that is significant to them and place it on top of the Illimat (a box at the center of the table which governs part of the game) to signify their commitment to the game and begin play.
Spéir has both magical and non-magical games of Illimat. So the average person knows about an okus as part of the game, but there are tons of folk stories about people making magical deals with okuses. Also someone might refer to something like a wedding ring as an okus, because it represents a serious spiritual commitment.
Physically, they can be anything, but usually it's something small enough to fit in the palm of a person's hand. Something that can be small and secret. I like to think of them all as beautiful.
In the RPG I'm working on, it represents a commitment to a scene that makes characters more powerful, but also more vulnerable.
The Falcon, for @campaignskyjacks
I had an idea to make Project Falcon a luminary when we first got news of them being born, but it took me this long to finally make it!
The piece is done in my best recreation of Carson Ellis's style, since I adore her art to the ends of the earth :3
I finally got the Skyjacks Illimat boards/handkerchiefs hung up. They're so beautiful I didn't want to store them in a box out of sight.
I made a basic frame to attack them to using a giant spool of ribbon that was 80% off after the holidays. So they shouldn't get stretched out. And I only tacked them on so I can remove one if I want!
featuring my naughty cats who wanted to eat the thread as I was stitching.
Hopefully next time we get Orimar's and Margaret's designs! Idk what I'd do with an odd number of them
Just listened to this week’s skyjacks and decided to use my warm up time to design a moon luminary. When they were discussing the idea of the moon being kind of a search light that reveals the hidden, I kept thinking of an eye, so that was the main concept I used.
I am, once again, a day late! Here is the last day of Margaret week: the Maiden! I had to make a Maiden Luminary card obviously
Image Description: a recreation of the Maiden Luminary card with Margaret as the focus. She is standing facing the viewer, but with her head turned to right showing her profile. She is holding a black lily in her right hand, and there is a red string connecting with her pinkies.
