So, Dustin and Steve continue taking their caravan trips for several years, visiting all kinds of towns and having adventures together. They are on the phone with each other all the time, spend Thanksgiving, Christmas, and even travel to New York on New Year's to visit Will.
Everything seems normal until one day out of nowhere, they both look at each other with a calm and serene expression as they say:

And magically all the pieces fall into place. Because saying it out loud was something they could no longer keep denying. They look at each other and smile, sharing a kiss filled with so much devotion and contained love. Because they had always been one, they had just finally accepted it.
