having a crush is literally like being under a curse
Can we see you use the x-ray machine to see your heart please?
is this one of those weird asks…like that one time everyone got sent “draw X with an afro”.
liam’s anu-kite induced hallucination in triggers being a flashback to when he was a scared fourteen year old boy who couldn’t protect himself against a group of people who were supposed to be on his team rather than one about theo, the guy who once tried and almost got liam to kill one of the most important people in his life while shifted and was planning on killing him next even though becoming a monster that hurts people is one of liam’s greatest fears. theo actually being the one who pulls liam out of his head and keeps him from killing someone and talks to him about why he gets so angry when he’s really feeling afraid. layers. guys there are layers.

for real cant stop thinking abt how cool altair’s arc is in ac1 like.
we’re introduced to him at his absolute worst. he’s the best assassin in the brotherhood, and it’s gone to his head - he’s arrogant, self centered, and doesnt care about anyone else, not even the creed that’s supposed to uphold as a master assassin. and so he acts rashly, and the price is paid, as kadar straight up Dies and malik loses his arm, because the mission went wrong because altair thought himself invincible
it’s the absolute WORST way to introduce the MAIN PROTAGONIST to the audience, at least in terms of endearing us to him
and so he goes back to the brotherhood after surviving the mission going wrong. and malik comes back too, missing his arm and telling al mualim how his brother was killed.
malik HATES altair’s GUTS because his brother paid the price for altair’s arrogance. and al mualim decides that altair should be punished as well. after faking altair’s Death, al mualim decides to give him a second chance - which means that altair is demoted all the way to the absolute bottom and he has to make his way back up again, to re-earn his ranks
so altair sets off, demoted to a novice, and carrying out a bunch of menial busy assignments. nine assassinations he has to carry out, in three cities
so each assignment he gets, he has to speak to a rafiq in that city’s assassin bureau. and you just see how each rafiq leers at him and insults him, and it’s just, Low Blows considering he was once the top assassin. but oh boy, when he gets to jerusalem? well malik is now the rafiq of the jerusalem bureau. you winced at the other rafiqs’ low blows, but malik responds with outright Hatred and vitriol and you just... take it, because you know altair deserves it. and altair argues back at first, but as time goes on and he does more of the assignments, he slowly stops responding. he just takes all the insults in stride.
so over the course of the game you see him slowly learn humility, as he works to earn forgiveness and earn his place in the brotherhood once more
and that alone is so interesting! because literally when do you ever encounter a protagonist who undergoes a redemption arc? the PROTAGONIST? and of a video game no less, meaning that you’re PLAYING the protagonist. you’re THEM. it’s just so unique
BUT NOT ONLY THAT! but along the way altair starts noticing that some things just... don’t add up. he begins to question authority - not because of his arrogance this time, but out of a genuine sense of right and wrong. and characters accuse him of being arrogant whenever he tries to bring it up, so he mostly keeps quiet for most of the game except for the few attempts to bring it up to people. but by the end of the game, those last 3 assignments, he knows something isn’t right. and he confides in malik over this, who has witnessed altair’s slow path to humility and while he still doesnt like or trust altair he at least knows he’s Improving, and malik actually acknowledges altair’s uneasiness. instead of responding with the snarky underhanded comments born out of pain and hatred, he actually sits back and reflects and realizes and idk its just. such a monumental step in their relationship, the fact that altair confided in him, and that malik actually took him seriously, after how contentious they had been in previous interactions (rightly so).
and so by the end of the game we see that al mualim IS a traitor and IS working with the templars, and so now altair has to take him down and save the brotherhood as a whole. and idk its just so cool that this happened alongside his redemption arc. plus the fact that he and malik are finally on speaking terms, they’re FRIENDLY by the end its just.. clenches fists.
idk just tl;dr altair’s arc is so unique and i really like how it was handled lol
