Charles and Erik never got their time.

They were very close friends but then Magneto was born and they parted ways for a VERY long time. Charles and Erik are in their late 50s early 60s i believe. Charles 'dies' and Magneto sees him off to Lilandra. Because Charles entrusted HIM with the school and the X-Men he wanted to honor it. When Charles returned he was still trying to honour that dream. I can only imagine they had a short time together in ancient Egypt. They only had that short time to be working together.

Charles is grieving his friends death but he's also grieving what will never be.
