Why Arkayna’s family guards the Dragon Disk
Given the involvement that the Astromancers have with the Mysticons (it is mentioned in the chapter books that the original mysticons worked with the astromancers) I would have thought that the Dragon Disk would be held at the astromancer academy. There is only one reason I can think of to explain why Arkayna’s family had it, and that’s because Arkayna and Zarya are descendants of Imani Firewing, if not the original Mysticon Ranger as well.
My theory is that Imani’s firewing’s next-of-kin managed to be allowed to protect the Dragon Disk, as it is important in the family. If the original Mysticon Ranger was related to Imani Firewing, just as Zarya is to Arkayna, then it would be even more likely for the family to obtain the Dragon Disk. The Astromancers probably allowed that, either because of sympathy (they knew how hard it must have been to see Imani battle Necrafa) or because they figured anyone stealing it would check the Astromancer Academy, but not a random house (considering that Arkayna’s ancestors took over the kingdom, it may have been possible that her family wasn’t royal at the time).
One potential drawback to this theory is that Imani looks nothing like Arkayna or Zarya, but i don’t think that disproves the theory. Imani was alive 1,000 years before the series began (Em mentions the battle of victory heights being 1,000 years ago). Assuming a generation is 30 years, there would roughly be 33 generations between Imani and Arkayna and Zarya. And considering that only 50% of DNA is passed between each parent to their offspring, the amount of DNA Imani would share with her current descendants are very small, so it makes sense Imani doesn’t resemble them.
Tl;dr: The reason Arkayna’s family has the Dragon Disk is that they’re descendants of Imani Firewing. The lack of resemblance doesn’t matter, as the timespan means that the DNA shared between them would be very small.

Mysticons meeting Imani episode
Note: This does touch on dark subject matter, as Imani will mention what happened to the other mysticons. I don’t think it’s too bad (I don’t go in detail), but it is there.
Arkayna is in her room, reading about Imani Firewing. She wishes that she could be more like her. Her thoughts were interrupted by a call from Proxima, saying that there’s something strange going on at the hill of heroes.
The Mysticons investigate, and they notice a strange portal. Imani Firewing comes out, along with a mysterious person who appears to be from their time. A fight ensues, where Zarya is almost knocked from the hill, only to be saved just in time by Piper. The mysterious person leaves. Imani tells the Mysticons that the masked figure called himself Tirum, and that he claimed to be from the future. Proxima offers to create a way to send Imani back to her time, while the Mysticons figure out where Tirun went, and why he’s there. When they leave, Imani pulls Arkayna back and scolds Arkayna for not looking out for her team, as Zarya almost fell.
At the stronghold, Em asks what took Imani and Arkayna so long. Before Arkayna can reply, Piper guesses that they were talking about “Dragon Mage” stuff. Arkayna, believing what Imani said and not wanting to cause trouble, agrees. The others believe it, but Zarya is suspicious. They look up Tirun on social media, and learn that he is against the Mysticons. Piper suggests tricking Tirun into falling for a trap before he hurts the Mysticons, either in their time or Imani’s time.
Their plan is to have a plan at Victory Heights. Em puts a profile post about a “Mysticon Picnic” at Victory Heights. They go, and Tirun comes, with other people. A fight ensues, and it becomes a close fight. The people with Tirun get arrested, but Tirun escapes.
At the stronghold, Imani asks Arkayna to speak privately. When they leave, Zarya tells the others that she thinks Imani isn’t as friendly as she seems, and convinces Em and Piper to eavesdrop on the conversation.
They hear Imani scold Arkayna for allowing Tirun to escape, as he is after the Mysticons, so the others would be in danger. The other Mysticons stand up for Arkayna. Imani apologizes to Arkayna, and explains that she was the last Mysticon, and she doesn’t want Arkayna to deal with what Imani went through. Em reassures Imani that they all look out for each other, and that it’s not all one person’s responsibility, even if that person is the leader. They have a group hug, which is interrupted by Proxima letting them know that the portal to send Imani to her time is ready.
At the portal, Imani reassures Arkayna that she is a good Mysticon. They all say their goodbyes, and Piper hugs Imani before she leaves, claiming that she “needs one”. She leaves, telling the mysticons to look out for each other, and warns them to be careful, as Tirun is still out there.
