I just got back from seeing Alita for a 4th time (3 times in IMAX and 1 time REALD 3D, no ticket stub for the latest sadly bought it online), and I can safely say, that Alita: Battle Angel is my favorite movie of all time.
It just, it does everything right. It respects the source material like royalty while at the same time being its own thing. The pacing is phenomenal, the characters are spellbinding. Even after seeing it 4 times, I still tear up at the same scenes, I still feel the impact of said scenes, I still get hyped for the Motorball races.
It’s kind of funny too, seeing critics give it such low scores when literally everyone I know who has seen it, enjoyed it at worst, and at best has seen it multiple times. How many non-Marvel movies do that? Rotten Tomatoes has it at a 94% audience rating with tens of thousands of ratings. To paraphrase Alita, “Fuck the critics.”
I can only hope, now that Disney controls 20th Century Fox, that after Avatar 2 makes a gorillian dollars, that they green-light the 2 sequels that Cameron and Rodriguez wanted to do. If ever there was a movie that deserved a sequel, no, demanded a sequel, it would be this one.
I saw captain marvel last night during the international women’s day and it’s the best decision I ever made in my life
