Brighid"s prayer

Brigit with the cloak, triple goddess

surround us,

lady of the lambs,

protect us,

home keeper,

wake us up,

under your coat,

Gather us,

And bring us back to memory.

Mothers of our mothers,

strong ancestors,

How to stoke the hearth.

Imbolc and Serenitism

Imbolc is celebrated in the Neopagan/Wiccan calendar of holy days or 'Sabbats' at the halfway point between the winter solstice and the spring equinox [this year's Imbolc fell yesterday, Feb 2nd].  Traditionally a Gaelic holiday, it signals the coming of spring time and the honouring of the Goddess Brigid- Bride of the Earth, a symbol of fertility and keeper of the sacred hearths in the homes of practitioners.  As much of 'new year' as possible as it is a time of beginnings, it is also often a time of reflection, dedication or initiation for newer followers- a fact that has not been lost on me, as strictly by following the dates this would be my first 'holiday' while identifying as a Serenitist.

So if you are curious about paying homage to the Ladies of Serenitism in a way that is reminiscent to the rituals of Imbolc, may I suggest one thing? NO COLUMBUSING.  Don't think you can copy an established ritual honouring Brigid with all of her trappings and simply substitute the names you choose.  That's hella rude.  This year while I read and learned more the most I did was my usual chanting and invocation to the Ladies of the Inner Circle, as that was all I could offer.. next year when I am more confident of my learnings I will probably create my own rituals to honour them, but I don't to do so by ripping off established prayers and rituals already centered on a Goddess long since established.  so please, don't do that.

That being said!  Read under the cut for my musings~

Parallels to Ladies of Serenetism:

 Lady Mars shares one of the more more obvious parallels to the Goddess Brigid.  Imbolc is predominately a festival of Fire, and both entities represent and protect that Realm of Influence. They both also act as Guardians of War and Devotion- Brigid is closely associated with both Roman Goddesses Victoria [the personification of victory in battle, and bestower of loyalty] and Minerva [the warrior/strategist goddess], while Lady Mars was granted the additional Stewardship over the realm of War by Neo-Queen Serenity [and her devotion to her mission, and to the Silver Lady, is NEVER a point of debate, as she had sworn an oath of Chastity to the then-Princess Serenity, mostly to ensure that nothing would ever distract her from her mission].  Finally, both Brigid and Lady Mars can be harnessed as divinators.  There are Imbolc 'crossroad' rituals that use Brigid as a guide to the path that they should take, whilst Lady Mars' innate abilities as a fire-reader [especially in her mortal form as a Miko/shrine maiden] leands itself to similar rituals of divination by fire or smoke.  Lady Mars' core attacks as Sailor Mars also have the added presence of purification.

An alternate figure of fire to honour or include at your discretion would be Lady Vesta- the equivalent of Lady Mars to the Small Lady's court.  As the Roman astrological sign for the planetary body is supposed to resemble a hearth, this provides an additional point of comparison to Brigid.

Lady Jupiter's Realm of Influence is Nature- but I choose to see it as more than just the commanding forces of nature she wields as her attacks as Sailor Jupiter.  As Imbolc is the changing of a season, the flowers that Lady Jupiter are so fond of will now appear- or have the chance to, in any event.  Additionally, as a Bride of the Earth, Brigid is seen as a figure of homekeeping and domesticity, and in her moral form Lady Jupiter can easily be labelled as the most maternal of the Senshi, taking pride in her skills as a homemaker.  Imbolc is not a bad time to do some spring cleaning, and channeling Lady Jupiter's earnestness can be a welcome perk!

You also have the choice of honouring or including the Lady Saturn, Guardian of Rebirth and Progress, in your meditations.  Her powers are often associated with death and destruction, yes, but it is never as final as it seems, as Death leads to Rebirth.  As Imbolc ushers in Spring at the End of Winter, channeling the Lady's Silence Glaive as a ritualistic 'ending' of the season is also an option.

And finally, as Brigid is heralded as a fertility goddess, the Silver Lady herself can be invoked by reflecting on the maternal bonds present in her line.  There are multiple ways one could do that:

 honouring the Old Queen Serenity as she sent forth her daughter Serenity to start the cycle of Silver Millenium Queens anew,

considering the aspect of the Triple Goddess within the Silver Lady herself- from Mortal to Soldier to Queen [or even Soldier to Queen to Immortal, depending on how you place Sailor Cosmos into your personal pantheon]

or even the passing off the torch between the Silver Lady to her own daughter, the Pink/Small Lady.

Of course, there are ways to bring in other Ladies of the Pantheon to suit your own purposes for a Springtime Ritual.  I live in an area that is mostly rainy than snowy, so I could send a tribute to Lady Mercury for the blessings of spring rain, or start planning tribute even to Lady Venus, as February is a month that celebrates love in all its forms. There truly is no limit to what one can do to honour the Ladies of Serenitism in your own, special way~
