How many times does Pewdiepie need to be racist and then apologize for being racist before we just realize he's just apologizing for getting caught...?

Well Anon, I suppose the first thing that would have to happen would be for Felix (because he has an actual name and he is a real person) to physically do something racist or say something with the intentions of being racist towards an individual(s). Then we could consider your question in a more serious tone.

I assume you are referring to the number (yes, I’m afraid there are multiple, which doesn’t exactly help MY case) of instances where Felix told some off-color and offensive jokes without any forethought. *Edit: Jokes, I might add, that are not all centered around race, but as well as other social areas (please people, do your research. Another way I can tell the jokes are nothing more than jokes. He’s testing the waters and pushing boundaries on what is funny and acceptable and what is not. Like I’d expect any other creator or comedian to do.)

I was there when they happened and believe me while I understood the jokes were ill crafted and misinformed and I was disappointed in him as a fan, I watched the events play out in real time. I saw that they were in fact jokes not meant to be harsh, cruel, hateful to any one person or group, or state a message to lead to violence and/or hate.

I also saw his explanations after the events, the consequences he faced (when he never expected to meet any), and his apologies. Having watched Felix’s content and seen him grow from a boy to a man over the course of his career, I as a fan know that his apologies were sincere. He feels guilt for the jokes he told in poor taste and has learned from his past indiscretions. He has continued to grow as a person after the fact.

While it is hard for most to comprehend in this new day and age, Felix, like many of his colleagues in the YouTube industry, are in fact comedians. Since the beginning of his channel, but especially since he has moved his content from reacting to video games to these 10+ minute long stand up routines, Felix has made a living making jokes for thousands if not millions of fans to laugh at, at one point or another.

Comedians, while they should be held accountable when they cross a line, craft their entire careers around the concept of pushing the boundaries of whats funny and acceptable and what’s not. But comedians are people capable of making mistakes. Many it seems in recent years have been crossing lines in their comedy routines. Funny or not (and most of the time these are just jokes and they are in fact funny) they can and probably should be checked. However, they shouldn’t be prosecuted and hung out to dry for telling one bad, inappropriate, or off-putting joke in their entire successful career.

You and I are also people capable of making similar mistakes. I’m sure if you were to slip up you would like the opportunity to learn and grow and receive the understanding and forgiveness from those affected around you that you have seen all these comedians, including Felix, receive as they continue in their careers.

Being a fan doesn’t make it ‘easier’ to ‘forgive, forget’ and continue watching Felix’s videos as if the jokes were never told. I understand that the jokes told hurt people on an emotional level and they should be avoided in almost all instances. Felix should have checked himself before doing what he did or saying what he said when he said it.

But as someone who cares about Felix as a person and wants to see him succeed in his chosen career, I understand that he was attempting to make jokes. I understand who he is (at least his public face) as a person and I know that he isn’t a racist of any degree.

I grew up with racists, I’m forced to go to school with racists. I know what a racist thinks, how they act, what they say. And I’m almost or just as appalled as you are.

Felix is not a racist. He has yet to publicly say, do, or suggest that he holds racist feelings or ideals towards any group. He has yet to say, do, or suggest that he holds sexist feelings or ideals. He has yet to marginalize any minority or group in the 5+ years that I’ve watched his content (and believe me, I miss few uploads or tweets). He has yet to marginalize those inside or outside of his community in any way.

All Felix can do is apologize and learn from his mistakes. It’s our job as the public, who he has influence over in some areas and represents in others, to check him when he crosses a line and understand that when he does so it is under misguided circumstances.

But maybe that’s just IMHFO (In My Humble Fangirl Opinion).

I love seeing one of my Fandoms trending. It’s like, yes, this thing that I like is relevant and good and I want others to see it. I’m a part of that thing that is so active and that’s cool.
