For the character thing, Lewis Nixon? And/or Brad Colbert.
Oooh fun!! These are great~ I’ll go ahead and do ‘em both up for you. Let’s go in order, with Nix up first!
How I feel about this character: I love a quality sarcastic asshole and Nix is top of the line. I think his perspective on the events of Band of Brothers is probably really interesting and I would love to know more about what he actually thought. Part of why I find the character interesting is because he’s built out of other people’s opinions of what he’s like in a lot of ways and that’s totally fascinating to me.
All the people I ship romantically with this character: Sticking to series here rather than actual RL canon but Dick Winters, obviously. Colonel Dobie, who deserves some actual in-fic loving for once, and I really like the sort of hatefucking dynamic he has with Buck Compton.
My non-romantic OTP for this character: I’m very enamored of Nix and Dick’s friendship and I honestly really like him in the capacity of straight wingman to Dick. It’s a trope I’d love to try someday.
My unpopular opinion about this character: Um, I think Nix is mean and selfish. It’s part of why I like his character, so that’s not an indictment or anything but as fandom opinions go I don’t tend to vibe with Nix being a secret woobie romantic. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, YKINMKATO and what have you. I do think he shows affection in his own ways but I don’t think he’s the lovey-dovey type.
One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: I wish we’d gotten to see the degradation of Nix’s confidence up to Why We Fight. Like, his POV episode comes out of nowhere and he’s breaking under this pressure (and doing it so beautifully, truly) but we don’t even get a slow indication in the backs of scenes from other episodes that it’s happening. I also wish we’d seen him interacting with the men more.
How I feel about this character: Brad as portrayed in the series is the kind of brooding, stoic type that I think is interesting to watch but doesn’t appeal much to me to explore as a writer. I’ve had my fill of guys who don’t believe in love because of a bad breakup needing to be artfully coaxed through their manpain.
All the people I ship romantically with this character: While I can see the potential for the more popular Brad ships and am content to read a well-written fic that explores them, I don’t have the strong desire to romantically attach Brad to anyone, really.
My non-romantic OTP for this character: I was a little torn on this one, because I do love the moments where we get to see Brad’s genuine respect and affection for Nate but Brad and Ray’s bromance is just so beautiful. It’s the kind of honest male friendship I feel like I don’t see on-screen that often and it strikes such a chord with me.
My unpopular opinion about this character: Honestly probably most of the opinions I’ve expressed about him so far.
One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: I wish they’d explored Brad’s character more overall. He has some really beautiful moments but it’s like the writers took the ‘Iceman’ callsign and were like “That’s it! That’s all of his personality! Enjoy!” Even with the one scene we get where Brad loosens up, so to speak, it’s like there are these little tiny flashes of a fully rendered human person that come through in certain moments, and Skarsgard does such a good job with them, and I wish we’d gotten to see Brad either before his Iceman face got put on or after he was able to take it off for awhile.
Thank you so much for the asks friend!!!
