Febuwhump 2022 Day 7- Used as an experiment

Aaron held his daughter close to his chest, smiling at the sound of her soft breathing. The vampires had decided to let him stay with Penny and Hope whenever he wasn’t being fed on, which he was extremely grateful for. It made his life actually bearable. Penny was sitting next to him, head resting on his shoulder.
“She’s so beautiful,” she said. “I can’t believe she’s already walking.”
Aaron chuckled, but he was hit with a pang of sadness. He had missed out on so much of her first year, and now she was already eighteen months old.
“That’s our girl,” he said.
Just then the door opened. Aaron reluctantly handed Hope to Penny as he got up to go be a dutiful blood bag. He followed the vampire through the corridors until they arrived at the officer’s mess. It was a familiar routine after Aaron’s almost three years in the EFSP and he gracefully got to his knees to await the first vampire.
Aaron flinched when the door was slammed open, smashing against the stone wall. Gods, not this bastard.
The vampire’s rant started with “Those fuckin’ idiots!” and continued to deteriorate from there. The officers tended to like to vent to the humans, who were presumably too dumb to repeat anything. This officer in particular would yell for upwards of half an hour, always ranting about one thing or another. Aaron zoned out, nodding at the appropriate times to give the impression that he was listening. The yelling scared him, to be honest. It too easily could turn into pain.
Finally, the vampire finished, his face red.
“Get up,” he said, and Aaron dutifully got to his feet, wincing at the pain as the blood flowed back into his legs. The fangs bit into his neck and Aaron didn’t fight.

By the time his shift was over, Aaron couldn’t stand. But at least he got to go back to his family. The guard carried him through the halls, opening up the door and setting Aaron on the ground. His head was spinning, but that didn’t stop him from noticing that something was wrong. Penny was curled up in the corner, her face hidden.
Aaron’s heart skipped a beat when he realized Hope was nowhere in sight.
“Penny?” he said, crawling over to her. She didn’t look up at him. He knelt down next to her, reaching out to cradle her face in his hands. Her cheeks were wet with tears.
“Penny, where’s Hope?” he asked.
“They took her,” Penny said, her voice thick with tears. “They took our baby.”
Aaron’s stomach dropped to the floor. “No. Gods no.”
Penny surged forward wrapping him in a hug. “They said they wouldn’t hurt her, that they were just taking her to stay with the other children but she was so scared Aaron,” Penny sobbed. She was crying so hard she couldn’t speak and Aaron just held her, slowly rocking back and forth. The leeches had taken his daughter. Hope. Who meant more to him than anything else in the world. Aaron closed his eyes as anger and grief and absolute despair engulfed him. She must be terrified.
“Did they say why?” Aaron asked once Penny’s sobs had quieted. Penny pulled back, wrapping her arms around herself. She didn’t meet Aaron’s eyes.
“They want us to breed again. See if we produce another healthy child,” she said. “Once they’re sure I’m pregnant they’ll give her back to us.”
Aaron pressed his hands to his face and sobbed. The vampires never gave them a choice.
