Please help me improve my art if you have tips!!

I’ve been looking at my art, and I hate to say- but i have been comparing. I think I wanna change it for the better, but I’m having trouble changing my style. I have a few that I like, probably just for the coloring, but I feel like they look kinda childish. I think I drew them for fun? I like to draw for fun, yeah, but I still want it to turn out good :/

It may be the coloring or the fact that I tried shading? It might be the fact it’s more detailed than some of my others that I’m not as proud of. But if you have any tips/advice or suggestions, PLEASEEE give me!! I’d really appreciate some advice to improving my art. I like it, but I want to love it and improve my skills!!!!!!

Thank you! My tips on painting and imporving are probably as overused and plain as they can be:

- Practice as much as you can! Don’t waste your time doing stupid and useless stuff (like mindlessly watching youtube videos for hours, playing too many video games, scrolling on social media) because you will most likely regret it later. There is no “I’ll do it tomorrow”, “I’ll draw when I feel like it”, do everything NOW and as much as possible.

- Don’t paint simply for the sake of painting, try to think about where you’re putting the shadows, highlights, etc. and what colors you’re using. It’s difficult and can take the fun away from PAINting but it’s very important to have basic knowledge and skills. (I recommend doing photo studies or drawing from real life)

- Experiment with different styles, colors! Get out of your comfort zone and draw a landscape instead of a character (or whatever you usually draw). Although it’s good to specialize in an area, you will often find yourself short of skills and flexibility if you never get out of your comfort bubble. And hey, isn’t it fun to spice things up once in a while?

(Here’s a recent experimental sketch that I did instead of the usual painting of a cute girl)

- Surround yourself with lots of art related stuff! Find info online, read books about art, watch tutorials, listen to podcasts about art, find like-minded people. Learn to love art and you will fin it easier to pick up your pencil and start drawing.

Well, I guess those aren’t really tips on painting but I hope they answer your question nevertheless.

As for the brushes, I usually use “Chalk 44 pixels” (7th brush on Photoshop CC 2017 in the Brush Presets) and “Round Curve Low Bristle Percent“ (8th one). I also sometime use the airbrush but I try to avoid doing so because it feels like cheating.
