Knockout in progress for you animals
Today went really fast. But it was a good day.
I had trouble falling asleep last night, I just felt really restless. But that’s really because I laid on the couch around 6 because it was so dark outside and I was just to rested but not tired. If that makes sense. But I did fall asleep. I woke up a few times but it was alright.
I woke up at 7 and read on my phone for a little. I fell back asleep and got up around 930. I showered and got dressed. It was a little chilly in here but I couldn’t figure out how cool it was outside. So I didn’t wear tights or anything. Just brought my scarf along like I said I was going to from now on.
I changed my sheets and had some toast. I watched tv. But I didn’t clean up my apartment like I was planning. I just didn’t have the energy. Or desire really. So I just watched tv and chatted with Jess and it was a nice morning.
Ashlyn was running late but that was okay. I didn’t have any other plans today. She texted me around 1130 that she was here and I went out and I got to meet my new neighbor, who is also named Jessica! I hope we get to talk again she seemed sweet.
It was good to see Ashlyn. It was a very grey day still but we had fun.
We drove out to the dick blick and I had a great time there. I needed paper and ink but I also picked up some markers. I got 2 rolls of paper and a large bottle of ink for my video project. I was a little sad when it rang up as $82. But!! I still had a student card on file nad that gave me an instant rebate and so my total was actually $45! Amazing! Truly blessed.
We dropped off all my heavy things in the car and then went to the consignment shop next door. I was surprised at how large it was inside. But it was really nice. We both decided we needed transitional fall jackets. So we looked for those. But were disappointed that the prices were all over $20. I found a leather jacket I really like for $30, and Ashlyn found one for $40. But neither of us wanted to drop that. But it was fun. We looked at the shoes and knick knacks and it was a good time. We looked at mirrors too, as Ashlyn wanted one for her apartment. But all were very expensive.
We headed out to find somewhere to eat next. We ended up at a natural foods place. Slightly more expensive then like Bad Waitress. And the wait was a few minutes but it was okay. We ordered right away, but our food took forever. But honestly. Worth the wait. I got a veggie burger that was amazing??? Like one of the best I have had in a long time. It was great. Very pleased.
And the conversation was great too. Ashlyn’s really smart and funny. And lets me babble about stupid shit. But also about art and life and it was just really nice. I'm glad we are friends.
We left there and headed to my studio. On the way there I yelled that we had to turn around because I saw a pile of free stuff, we a sign that said they were free, on the side of the road and there were 2 full length mirrors! They didn’t fit super well in the car because its so small, but Ashlyn seemed excited to and I was happy to be able to find them for her.
Once we got to my studio we worked on waxes and plaster and just chatted for a few hours. She’s never worked with wax before so I gave a little tutorial and showed her some tools to play with. It was exciting to show her something new to try.
I showed Ashlyn around the MFA campus for a bit and then she drove me home. It was a good day.
I did my laundry finally. And I read for a while. Cuddled with sweetP. My old man neighbor that’s always nice to me told me he’s moving to North Carolina on Tuesday. So that’s a little sad. But I hope he has a good time there.
I'm going to have a snack now and wash my face. I am planning on going to ballet tomorrow and going to savers. To look for things and also maybe a leather jacket for cheap?? Maybe. I’ll look around. I also should probably get groceries but I don’t know if I’ll actually do that. I hope you all have a good night and stay safe.
Got the dark grey part done! Can’t wait for the rest!
Today was a nice day. The plans I had made didn’t 100% work out that way I had expected but it was still good.
I woke up at 830 to a text from Don that we couldn’t meet at 10 like we had planned because the bronze pour had been moved to then. So after a few back and forth emails we rescheduled for 1230. So I got ready and had some cereal and headed in to school to see the bronze pour. It was sort of raining when I was on my way to the school but it started pouring buckets once I got inside. Lucky me.
The bronze pour was pretty sweet. Quick but it was great. I could feel the warmth from the crucible, which is my favorite part. After that I worked in my studio for a bit, tried to get the house sculpture down to work on but got stuck. Don took a pretty funny picture of me under it. But I couldn’t stay long because there was a meeting for open studio night. And Nick was sweet enough to offer me a ride. His car is a very pretty color. We talked about thesis stuff and I picked his brain a little. And we talked about how mild it was outside but how it was a trick because this happens most years and then another blizzard happens. So I’ll enjoy it while it lasts.
The meeting was fine. Boring. I just honestly don’t care about the thing. But whatever I’ll do my part, since itll probably be really fun.
After the meeting Sam informed me I had to deinstall my sculpture from the project space. Which I didn’t realize. So I went to find a drill, had no luck, had to ask around, but then took it down pretty fast. No issue. Nick drove me back after we looked at the gallery to figure out what things he’ll be putting up.
I was really hungry though so after a few minutes of hemming and hawing in my studio I went to get some lunch. I ran into Don up in the cafeteria with his mentee from last year, Ellie. She had come to visit him. And I found out that Don only recently got married, so my detective work is going well basically.
After lunch I went back to work and was able to get the house half out of the studio before Don came to talk to me. And it was a really productive meeting. He seems excited about my new project and gave me some artists to look at. And we decided to cut the house on an angle to give it some new life. He said he can really tell I have some vigor and excitement about my direction and its really nice to see after I had been so depressed last semester. I am much happier now so that’s good. And we talked about how much I like the stories in objects and where that might go. It was nice.
I worked for an hour cutting the house. I had to go back and get Don’s help figuring out the miter I needed and a trick for that I was able to pretty much finish that so I could go home at 2.
I biked back which was really nice. But I'm starting to think my last bike was 47cm because this one still seems a little tall. Its fine, its just a getting used to how I have to get on and off. it’s the shortest it came in so I could be wrong. I really loved riding today though I'm glad it was nice enough for it.
I got home and updated my laptop and then at 3 I had my video interview for this things I'm doing with my Enbrel thing. It was a great interview though and I felt like it was really productive. My favorite part was at the end they asked me about the future and I told them about my camp director goal and you could see in their faces how much they were melting at it. Like they really liked the idea and seemed excited. And also I gave them some social media ideas and app ideas they seemed excited about so that was cool that I could be helpful.
After I got off the call I packed up real quick and caught the bus to target. I met a nice old man on the bus who gave me a piece of candy. Which is going in my collection project I'm doing. Its to bizarre not too.
Target was good. I got 100% cotton sheets for $8. As well as some cute Easter socks and food. Omelet stuff mostly. Then I headed to get the package mom had sent me from the fedex office.
It took forever to get home. Or at least it felt like it. I must have just missed the bus because I was at the stop for what felt like forever. A guy in his 30’s came up to me and asked about my music tastes then asked what I thought of the name “Dj jigglebutt” which was apparently a sketch on Saturday night live. The whole thing was very strange.
I got home and the package was a dust devil vacuum! I still need to figure out my vacuum but this is a big help! I was really surprised. I was worried mom got me something dumb. I am trying really hard to not have any more dumb stuff coming into my space.
I had a snack and texted with Jess. I put my new sheets on because I'm that kind of person. I still need to get quarters to do laundry on Sunday. And tomorrow I have to write my entire paper which is going to suck. But I can do it. I've had a really nice day though. And I feel tired but I'm happy. And I feel good about my projects. So much better than last night. Things are alright.
I hope the same for you all! Goodnight!
Allergies are not fun. Today was a pretty good day though. It wasn’t a very fun night. Because once again people were in the parking lot at 3 in the goddamn morning being loud and horrible. I learned today that I should call 311 so I will do that if it happened again but I did send my apartment agent an email letting them know. It wasn’t fun though I just wanted to sleep.
I woke up at 7 and was tired but felt alright. I got in the shower and got dressed in what I had left. Okay that’s not fair I have lots of clothes, but most of my favorite things were dirty. I made a fried egg and potatoes for breakfast and read for 20 minute before I was off to work.
It was an alright day. I finished the cubby for the bronze, but I accidently made it too big by like 4 inches on all sides. Annoying. So I took a saw to it and it was very cathartic to just hand saw this thing apart and put it back together. I had some feelings because I hate feeling like people are talking to me like I'm stupid but I let it go. Finally I was able to put it all back together and get it in the spot and it total held the bronze. And it was like 300lbs of metal!
I spent the rest of my shift working on some little clay bunnies. Don said I can mold them and shouldn’t have any issues with that. I did realize that I had been making my dead hare forms going the wrong way maybe?? Most of the time they are held by their ears, and I had been doing it by their feet. I may mix the two ideas.
After my shift I ran into Sam and Bianca for a few minutes. I went to get a soda and a little bag of chips. I worked on my paper hare forms. I'm not 100% on whats happening with them. The plan was to shellac and mold them but now I'm thinking I may be able to just direct burn it out? Maybe. It may be easier in the long run to mold them and just like shell the wax into the mold? I don’t know yet!
It started getting very grey outside. Which was very surprising since yesterday was basically summer. So I left for class before 2 and it was so cold out! I I'm glad I wore fuzzy tights. I got to the studios and walked around and talked to Jacob for a while.
Class was nice. I liked our visiting artist a lot. But she went to school in philly at temple and every single time she mentioned somewhere in Pennsylvania Andy (my teacher) and Joe (with his perfect hair) would look at me! It was really funny. And she made some poster work about rabbits and Andy kept looking at me when that was brought up. So silly.
It felt like a pretty good crit overall too. Photo work isn’t something I always understand but they were really beautiful so I appreciated that.
I wanted to rush out because the weather was turning. The rain had mostly stopped but the wind was terrible! I biked home as fast as I could but it started raining towards the end of the trip.
I had just enough change to do my wash and things were going fine. I put the clothes in and had dinner while I waited. I went back to put them in the dryer and the machine ate my quarters and I didn’t have enough left! So I had to bring all the damp clothes up and hang them all over. Some stuff is gonna be so wrinkly. Damnit.
I took a long bath and washed my hair and shaved my legs. I just painted my nails and I'm just hanging out. I have some chores and errands to run in the morning but I want to spend my afternoon in the studio. I also have ballet tomorrow night so I want to use my time wisely! So wish me luck! Goodnight everyone!
*whispers to myself as I fuck around on MMD learning how to pose models* Don’t look at me like that, Wash, you’re the one dating them.
