Re-listening to The Wizard the Witch and the Wild one (again) and I cant help but wonder, as our pcs have speculated, what Grandmother Wren put away in her familiar Taro. What did she have him hold?
And I dont have the full shape of it yet.
But roosters arent known for mischief. Roosters are known for... fighting. Being loud. Being kind of belligerent.
And Taro essentially picked a fight with Ame every morning. Taro seemed to enjoy stirring things up with the little girls. Grandmother Wren said, "I refrain from fights I can win all the time." Grandmother Wren's repeated flaw is described in the shape of delaying- waiting too long.
Ame learned you have to be kind, but you have to be cunning.
And I wonder if Grandmother Wren put away the part of herself that woke up every morning and screamed at the world, even if it didnt do anything or made people furious with you. If part of her tendency to delay was searching for a solution without bloodshed or mass disruption- when sometimes that is the price of avoiding something even worse. Lancing a boil to heal it, as opposed to letting it fester. I love the wisdom of grandmother when's statement about refraining from fights even if you can win them- but I wonder if maybe she should have started a little more.
And to be clear, I love her all the more for her flaws. Shes human.
But I speculate that the part of herself she put away in Taro isn't mischief at all.
