"Wait wha-?" Slobo couldn't finish his question before he found himself being thrown through the air with a sore spot on his arm revealing that he was grabbed and the sharp way air escaped him making the kick clear.
Landing was always a bit of a bastich for Slobo since there wasn't really a great way even if he knew the arena how far he had gone in the air so he relied on good luck, which in this case had him land flat on his back letting out a oof.
He quickly though recovered by pushing himself up off the ground and back up onto his feet in one shift motion.
"Y'know I didn't know we were using psychological warfare in the sparring but I can bite buttercup." It felt a little odd to use pet names in general but Slobo could get behind some banter, it had been... Two lifetimes ago since he really did it.
Slobo bbeckoned Thad to come in for an attack, Slobo was readying himself to return the favor as fair as grabs went, he'd wait til just when he heard the boom of a speedster taking off and using where the air had moved to know where he was to grab him.

found these posts from the writer of the SW story on the quinncident and baras’s recruitment. it’s something that’s been meta’d to death but which i’ve never seen Word Of God on before now.
(yoinked from this post on reddit - warning for... reddit.. at the source, along with varying amounts of quinn critical and with some random koth hate)
edit: now that my computer is behaving itself, a transcript:
[part 1]
...the original scene had survived. But the long and the short of it is that QUinn is loyal to an absolute fault. And unfortunately his loyalty to Baras long outdates his loyalty to you, even though the bond you've forged may be more real and based on deeper things. Baras literally saved QUinn's life, and even more important to him, his career, at a time when he was only just starting out really, and all his dreams and hopes and great potential were about to be dashed. So when you and Baras begin to cross swords, it's a truly awful crisis for him. In my mind, therefore, there was no need for Bras to use the Force to make QUinn betray you. I tried to leave it open to interpretation that Quinn could have secretly programmed the war droids so the SW would be able to defeat them, and sprang the betrayal otherwise faithfully. He'd then be able to have honoured or seemed to have honoured his duty to Baras, while being 'faithful' to you. And he'd of course be willing to pay the ultimate price for this conflict of interest he's responsible for. In my mind, he would not expect to survive the even, and would never divulge his true intentions. He is a man who understands sacrifice for integrity and principle. Even if he has to live now estranged from the one he admires, respects, and even loves most.
[part 2]
Baras is definitely the 'long game' type. The ascent that the warrior eventually foils has been in the works for decades. Quinn's talents were part of the attraction for Baras, but the length of Quinn toiling on Balmorra was more a function of letting this asset stew. Baras knew that the longer someone like Quinn had to sit on his hands and the closer he got to feeling and reconciling that all his dreams ambition and potential would never be met, the more pliable and desperately thankful Quinn would be when called upon . Also Baras is the type that if the opportunity never presented itself, it would be fine if Quinn ended up dwindling away. In fact, Quinn was being tested - being on hold like that would drive many a creature like Quinn to any number of vices and self-destruction. The fact that Quinn held the line, remained sharp and ready, impressed Baras. In the SW Balmorra campaign, Baras nudges but it would have been fine if the warrior came and went and Quinn remained in lowly servitude. But Baras knew that given this taste of important work and then being released to serve where he sees fit, Quinn would likely forge his path with the warrior. And then Baras would have his mole on his apprentice's team. So to answer what Quinn has been doing on Balmorra all those years, it's the equivalent of Imperial busywork. Otherwise the taste of the real stuff wouldn't be so stimulating. If I were writing about it, I'd surely make it so Quinn is going above and beyond there. Always crossing the T and getting as much out of a situation as possible. More than expected. That way he's not stagnating, as someone else might. Make sense? AS far as Quinn's work for Broysc goes, yeah, I see his speciality as intelligence/counterintelligence. That likely would have been his career path, which would have brought him into Baras's consciousness/world in the first place.
