I've been in and around competitive sport for most of my adult life. I've competed at the Olympics. I've seen what elite athletic performance looks like up close. And I'm telling you — what Rishikanta Singh Chanambam did at the Commonwealth Games 2026 hit differently.
the composure though??
like the thing that gets me is not just the result. it's HOW he got there.
calm. focused. completely locked in. the kind of composure that doesn't come from having an easy journey — it comes from having a HARD one and refusing to let it break you.
that's not something you can fake on an international stage. that's something you build, slowly, through thousands of training sessions that nobody claps for and competitions that don't always go your way.
Rishikanta built it. And then he showed it to the world. 🏆
a quick appreciation post for Manipur because —
guys. GUYS. the sporting culture that Manipur has cultivated is genuinely one of India's greatest stories and it doesn't get talked about enough.
Mary Kom. Mirabai Chanu. And now Rishikanta carrying that legacy forward on the CWG stage.
there's something about athletes from the Northeast that I find genuinely moving — this combination of quiet determination and absolute excellence that speaks louder than any press conference or promotional campaign ever could.
India is vast and India's champions come from EVERYWHERE and I think that's one of the most beautiful things about our sporting story. 🌏
what I want every young athlete reading this to know
hard work is not glamorous. it's not aesthetic. nobody's posting their 5am training sessions with a cute filter and a playlist recommendation (okay some people are but you know what I mean).
real preparation is:
boring repetition that somehow never gets less hard
choosing the discipline on the days you don't feel like it
losing publicly and going back anyway
trusting that the investment is compounding even when you can't see the returns yet
Rishikanta trusted the process. The process delivered. It always does, eventually, for those who stay.
