Buffalo Wild Wings Revisit
I hadn’t been to BW3’s since they reformulated their Blazin sauce. Supposedly the new sauce now includes ghost pepper, I can’t tell that sh!t still too hot to make such marginal discernment. However, I did stumble across a new sauce that was said to be hotter than Blazin! So hot, they are not allowed to toss the wings in it, it has to come on the side along with ice cream..😲 This new sauce, thankfully only available for a limited time is called Scorpion Rum, maybe the rum enticed me but the copious amount of heat actually made Blazin seem manageable. 3 words - Don’t Do It.
Hattie Mae’s
Nestled within the Willow Lawn shopping center is the newly opened Hattie Mae’s Southern Kitchen. I happened to stumble upon their menu ahead of the opening and was hopeful to find a good soul food spot within close proximity of the west end to avoid the hustle and bustle of downtown Richmond.
Formerly the American Tap Room, Hattie Mae’s boasts a small and conventional southern menu. We began with their Nashville Hot Wings, drizzled in hot honey rooster sauce. They were lightly breaded and quite tasty paired with a buttermilk peppercorn ranch dipping sauce. From the drink menu I was torn between so many seemingly good choices, I finally decided on their Moonshine Mule which consists of VA Moonshine, ginger beer, lime juice, muddled limes & a dash of bitters. My wife went with the Carnival Queen which was made from Crown Apple, berry liquor, lemon, & sparkling wine. Although neither was strong, both drinks were very refreshing on this summer-like day.
This Southern Kitchen offers unique All-You-Can-Eat specials throughout the week, but we decided to pick from their Southern Signatures. For my entree I chose the Catfish and Waffles, while the wife opted for the the Cedar Plank Salmon. Both dishes were highly enjoyable. I must say this is the Best Fried Fish on this part of town! The catfish was seasoned and fried to perfection. The Salmon covered in Old Bay butter was nicely complemented with collard greens and mashed potatoes that were outstanding.
