Infinite Energy

While munching on lunch yesterday, I wondered to myself:

What would happen if the world suddenly found a free infinite energy source, with marginal cost to adapt to the current power infrastructure exiting in the world?

I imagine various energy companies would switch to generating energy with this, and appliances, cars, etc could also use this theoretical technology, and that it would somewhat revolutionize at least technology in relatively wealthy countries. But how would it affect other countries? Would it see the same distribution issues the food supply or water supply see today? Is the problem not having an advanced enough technology but in fact having the systems information to distribute what we have correctly?

I hate to be that guy

I hate being that guy, but I think it's almost funny how differently Sandy is being treated. The media has a way of giving life to stories which makes me wonder how differently this is being treated than Hurricane Katrina. Sure, they are both horrible tragedies, but one has to ask how differently the media is treating the more recent one. Is it the memory of Katrina that has brought the worlds attention to the devastation, or is it the demographics that are being effected. Poor southerners in Louisiana, mostly African American, it seems are not as important as the wealth basket of America. Maybe its just the timing, you know how the media gets at election time, if anyone shows the candidates everyone tunes out. But I think it's just weird how Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens are being heavily covered with an almost play by play update. What about Harlem? We're they protected? And for power outages there, you think a place already as dangerous as it is would have extra help. But we wouldn't know, I haven't heard a thing about it. Then again when do you ever hear things about the ghetto when something major happens. As for the illegal Austrian tourists. What if they were Arabic people fleeing from turmoil in the Middle East. They are of course devout Muslims, but would we see them as that, or security threats? I know I'm asking the controversial questions, but these are the things that come to my mind when I see selective coverage. Maybe it's just me.
