Enneagram 4′s Relationship to Suffering
Why do Enneagram 4′s seem to have this tendency to hold onto negative emotions longer than other types? In other words, why are they more tolerable of suffering in themselves and in others?
Enneagram 4′s can hold onto a memory of being in pain or sorrow for long periods of time. What they’re afraid of is losing perspective on what it once felt like to suffer and no longer be able to relate to those that are suffering. It might be due to knowing that emotional pain can very much invisible to others. And when hurt, they realize other people can also feel the same way, or feel even worse. Well, it’s not about comparing pain, but being unable to forget the existence that there is suffering in the world. To them, a world where people are unaware of or apathetic to the suffering of others, is more depressing than the suffering itself.
