an audio recording: past history
You know how it is, coming from a small town in a tucked away place. Everyone knew everyone, and everyone took care of everyone. That was how Snowpoint was. You know the gym leader there, right? Candice is my childhood friend. We grew up together, promised to be the best--her as a trainer and me as a coordinator--and then headed our own separate paths to fulfill them.
It's a pretty normal story, yeah, I know, but that's the thing about stories. They always have a way of changing. No matter how much you tell one, it always changes, doesn't it? Maybe a new thing here or there or even a different tone, but that's how life is. It's not really stagnant.
From there, I was pretty much on my own for a while. It was sometime after I got my first ribbon that I meet up with Dawn and her friends. She was pretty new at first an needed a hand, I remember my first contest and all the jitters that came with it. Of course, I had to help her out. We be came fast friends and we made another promise, to meet at the Grand Festival. Of course, it didn't change my determination, but--It was fun to have a friend. I thought we really bonded and all, and it was kind of a nice to watch her grow. Oh man, it wasn't a surprise when I finally made it to the top with--Just guess who was on the other side?--You got it! It was Dawn. She really grew up from that newbie coordinator, but I guess that's kinda to be expected from the daughter of a Top Coordinator, huh? She just needed a little push and a guiding hand. All that work, that was something she did herself.
... Ah, I guess that kinda brings things to where we are now, doesn't it? Right.
Mom and Pop have been nagging me to finally settle down, but I just can't y'know? But, there's something out there I'm missing, and it's not another contest. I'm actually taking a break from that sort of stuff. A surprise, I know, but once you reached the top, what else was there? Don't tell Candice I said that. She'd probably gut me.
Anyways ... It's been a while since it's been fun. I judge contests mostly now, showing up at events and other things. It's always fun to see budding coordinators and give 'em a few pointers. 'Cause I'm still a great coordinator, okay? I've even been to places like Unova and Kalos, exploring just what sorts of things they'd keep there and bringing it over to Sinnoh. I'd try to bring contests there but--Ah, I'm getting away from the topic, aren't I?
There's just something missing that I can't seem to grasp. People keep telling me that there's nothing wrong with how I am now, but I know there is.
I'll figure it out one day.
