#DidYouKnow? On April 9, 1960, the birth of hurricane tracking took place in Wall Township, #NewJersey at Camp Evans, a former Army post. This was thanks to the experimental #satellite #TIROS developed in New Jersey by Fort Monmouth/Camp Evans and RCA's Astro division in Princeton. The first photo from the satellite was received in NJ and flown to Washington for presentation to the President. In 2002, Camp Evans was listed on the @nationalregisternps and on October 17, 2012, the Camp Evans Historic District was declared a National Historic Landmark. Camp Evans Urban Exploration #5 This is the inside of building 9017, the old firehouse. It used to store mobile telecommunications equipment, but now it stores a Vietnam-era medical evacuation chopper. The same one I was talking about earlier. There's also a door that opens up to 25 feet of open air. Lotsa fun.

This is our helicopter at the museum, or, what's left of it. It's a Vietnam era medical evacuation chopper, aka a MASH. Someday we're gonna fix it all up. It will be glorious. I got to take a veteran who used to fly these things to the garage where we keep it. The look on his face was wonderful.

So Rick needed to figure out the power output of a radio he was working on. Like a regular, sane person he forgoed multimeter and instead made his own calorimeter. Measuring the power output of his radio by measuring how much it heats water. Totally sane.

Records records records. So, as I've said before, I sell surplus antique stuff for Infoage Science Center in Wall, NJ. And today I have a crate full of records to go through. Lotsa fun. Sometimes I listen to ones that look interesting. There's something really beautiful about the crackle of old records. And it's always amazing how high the audio quality is on old records. Edison recording tubes kinda sound like crap, but vinyl still sounds nice. I mean, I'm no hipster audiophile. I listen to almost all my music on car radio or Spotify on my phone. But records are nice when I'm surrounded by record players anyway.

So, these pictures show my walk to my work area in Camp Evans Historic District. I work in an area called "the cage", where the radio guys hold their surplus stuff. My job is to sell a bunch of that surplus stuff.
