What is the main cause of plastic pollution?
If you want to do your part to help reduce plastic pollution, please consider my perspective and share this document.
This piece will help inform you about plastic pollution and how we can contribute to abating it.
With the ongoing pandemic and other political problems, our public is caught up in bedlam. Racism-propelled hate crimes? Back-to-school safety issues? Rocketing covid variant death rates? Sadly, yes. But there’s something missing. Climate change, specifically plastic pollution.
Although our motivating environmentalists and beneficial fundraisers including Greta Thunberg, Leonardo DiCaprio, 4Ocean, and Ecosia are speaking up, we overlook the specter of global warming. We think the world will recuperate sooner or later because people are starting to address it. But not enough people are doing so. We assume that with all these leaders acting to help, everything will be fine. That’s what I thought too- before I learned this:
Hundreds of websites and environmentalists say that we should “decrease gum use”, “refuse plastic use”, recycle plastic, “stop buying water stored in plastic bottles”, etc. The solutions listed above are from Oceanic Society, NRDC, and many more. However, we do not need to waste our time on this. Of course, recycling, saving water, and turning our backs on as much plastic as possible may seem like a good idea. It’s a lie. In truth, plastic materials only cause 0.03% of all pollution.
The main cause is fishing. Fishing makes up 46% of plastic pollution and trash in the ocean. Some environmentalists refuse to address this, and that’s why so many people don’t know about it. You’re probably thinking, why? Those people are being paid by companies to keep quiet.
There are pictures of plastic bottles, bags, straws, and other items killing animals and filling up the ocean. They are evidence that plastic must be decreased in order to decrease pollution.
But don’t you see the fishing nets that strangle beautiful, sleek dolphins and sharks, killing far more sea animals than plastic?
Here are some photos of proof:
The picture just above is of sharks laid after being strangled to death from fishing nets.
Apologies; it’s horrifying. But it’s the only way some people will listen.
By fishing, other animals like dolphins, sharks, and whales are “unintentionally” killed as well. As you might already know, sharks’ fins are sliced off by restaurant owners in Japan and China because they are considered healthy. However, studies prove that they do not even provide 0.1% protein to humans. Even though sharks are eventually thrown back into the ocean, without their fins, sharks die. Sharks are nearly extinct. See, here we go again... another species about to go extinct.
Adding on to what I said earlier about how dolphins, whales, and sharks are unintentionally killed when fishing, it seems that some people do not kill them by accident.
According to BBC News, Taiji, a town in Southern Japan, captures hundreds of whales and dolphins on purpose. Since whales and dolphins consume much fish, fishers in Taiji kill them so they could maximize their marketing.
The company funding the people who kill the most dolphins, sharks, and whales in Japan is Mitsubishi.
Here are extra images from the same markets:
Not only do they harm dolphins, but they also exponentially decrease the population of one of the world’s most endangered fish.
According to the “INDEPENDENT”,
Now, the Pacific Bluefin Tuna’s population is less than 3% of what it was 50 years ago.
We need to stop this- fast. The question is, how?
The answer is simple: eat less fish.
After all, fishing is the most detrimental cause of plastic pollution. We need to eat less fish. Hopefully then will those restaurants stop killing these endangered species. We need to help our earth and its inhabitants.
Let’s be real here, even a million people stopping eating fish won’t make a difference.
That’s why I urge you to share this news. (I'll re-mention this in the disclaimer lol but it’s extremely crucial that you do so.)
Disclaimer: I am not writing this piece at 11:00 P.M. for views. I am doing this for our earth. I need someone to listen to my voice. There is an immense yarn of frustration forming in my stomach, and I need you to pull some string and hand it to others. In other words, please share this post and spread the word about this. If you read my piece thoroughly and thoughtfully, thank you so much. I appreciate it.
If you care about our earth, please reblog this post.
Sending love~ stay safe everyone.
