"Whatever comes next, I do not think it is to be feared."
From 2021 to 2022, guess what I did.
That’s right, I drew Semi Corrupted Inhabitants, including Leo and Emma.
And now that I was given the motivation, I think I might go make some sketches of my hyper fixation.
(Also the reason I don’t have Semi-Corrupted Cass on this post is because that disappeared for whatever reason, bonus points if any of you has saved the image so I can reference it, thanks.)
Hi!
So, Inhabitation!
We're getting into a weird unexplored area of plurality, so I can only actually speak from my own experiences. And Inhabitation can be either something you always do, or something you only do on occasion. There is a difference between being an Inhabitant who constantly identifies as an object, and other headmates who just temporarily inhabit one.
For the temporary inhabitation, this is something that any headmate should theoretically be able to do.
What I do is imagine myself possessing an object. My imposed form isn't super vivid and tends to be more ghost-like anyway, so it's easy to just walk inside something. Shrink the mindform down to fit in whatever is being possessed.
Another thing that I think helps with this is first-personing. That is, when you are in the Vessel, try to picture what the world would look like, including the person who is fronting and looking at you, from the angle of the Vessel. The visuals when doing this won't be completely accurate nor will they be perfect, but they help establish to your brain that you are the one in that object.
It can also help to mentally affirm that the object is you, and have the fronter do the same.
Now, as for how real it can feel, that is really going to depend on your system and your brain. Obviously, from the perspective of the fronter, it's going to feel real because they are actually touching a physical object. From your perspective, that's probably a lot more variable.
Do you have an inner world? And if so, how does your mind form feel in the inner world when hugged? I figure that if your sensations are weak in the inner world, they will probably also be weak in the inhabited Vessel.
But something that is important to remember about these sensations in the inner world or vessels is that you can train them. When touching something or being touched, you can try to overlay memories of how the body feels when it experiences similar things. These are skills that can be trained just like any other.
You may have to, rather than being passive and letting your brain generate sensations automatically, start by trying to vividly imagine what you should be feeling so that the brain develops the skills to make those feelings more automatic.
To the other question, I can't say how it would affect you to learn to identify with a plushie body. Nobody in our system has actually done that.
We have one headmate named Beatrix who was created as an inhabitant as an experiment to see if it would work. She feels very connected to her Vessel. We have a slightly harder time talking to her without her nearby but it doesn't prevent us from doing so if we need to. She can enter the inner world and enjoys that. She can front but doesn't care much for it because of her connection to her Vessel.
Finding out how she experienced these different things was part of the experiment with her. We wanted to leave her as just being in the vessel for a couple weeks and then introduce her to other things headmates can do later and see how she responded based on these experiences.
But you won't experience things like how Beatrix did because you aren't created to be an Inhabitant. If you decided to become a full inhabitant, constantly connected to a Vessel, I couldn't possibly predict based on our experiences how that would affect you.
While I am aware of some headmates who started out as POSIC companions and other types of inhabitants before becoming full headmates, I do not know of anyone who has done the reverse and intentionally become an inhabitant after already existing as another form of headmate.
Something that I do really want to stress here is that this is not something that you have to actually commit to. It's a state that you can be in. You can be in it for a few minutes or a few hours or weeks. And if you don't like it, you don't have to stay. It can just be a trial run. Or if you only like it part of the time, you can only be in the vessel when you want to. It can be a temporary way for you and the rest of your system to interact outside of imposition or the inner world rather than some major life decision.
Hope some of this was helpful, and best of luck to you! 💖
