I like making mixing my hobbies and fandoms together. I'm not always the greatest at writing and completely lack skills in the realm of fine art, so I often get creative in how to do things inspired by stuff I like.
I jumped fairly hard and deep into fountain pens and ink this fall. I really love color and playing with it in various ways. By the time I had my first pen and bottles of ink, I had an idea inspired by some limited edition ink and a cute pen I saw online. Within a day or two, I had the whole idea planned out. I just had to hunt all the parts down.
All pens are Platinum Preppy Wa Modern Maki-e limited editions pens with fine nibs in various patterns from the past few years. The inks are all a base of a Sailor Manyo ink (including the entire 5th anniversary line that had the inks that started it all) with 2-3 colors of Wearingeul's Glitter Potions that suit each character mixed in. Swatch cards made on Col-o-Dex rotary swatch cards using cotton swabs and Pilot Iro-Utsushi fine and medium dip pens.
The finished Avatar Ink Project. Pictures below of all 10 pens, swatch cards, and ink bottles.
Some weekly/daily planning and some pens/mildliner swatches.
I’ve been a little quiet here and not posting as often. I think I’ll get back to it now. I had an interesting couple of weeks and I decided to take a week off to rest and recuperate from the stressful thing April was. I checked progress and adjusted my study goals too. I don’t know when exactly I’ll start work so, it was a good idea to feel refreshed and get back to studying again.
Wow. ✨ My glorious new glass dip pen I’ve been loving lately. It has an extra fine writing tip that’s perfect for tiny grid and lined ruling, and a fat butt for swatching large amounts of ink! Looooove it. 😍
Swatching my inks on Iroful paper and Tomoe River paper for comparison
I don't think anything can beat the way TR shows sheening haha, some of the sheening inks are like 99% sheen and 1% actual colour 😂
It's also interesting that some swatches look more cool-toned on the Iroful paper; Sailor Yurameku Kyokkou, Sailor Yurameku Hana-gokoro, Ink Institute Mexican Hens, and Sailor Yurameku Kitsune-biyori
I always seem to have trouble capturing Sailor Shikiori Sakura-mori, Kin-mokusei, and Sailor Manyo Sakura on camera. They are NOT that neon irl and are very legible. Manyo Sakura is more on the lighter side but it still isn't like what those photos are showing, I enjoyed journaling with it this summer!
Inkvent Calendar - December 2nd - Yule Log
Really pretty brown ink with copper shimmer. I do love how shimmer looks. I hate having to clean it out of my pens, however... So I tend to avoid buying it, even if it looks really nice...😬 Tiny samples like these are fine, though, just to try.
After many years of owning fountain pens, I’m starting to expand my range of inks. So I recently decided to swatch them all on some old index cards I had hanging around.
Hi there! :) Would you ever consider doing a ink swatch thingy? I love to see the ink collections and favourites of people!
Hi! And yes! I’ve been meaning to do one for myself for a while actually. I’m thinking about getting a Color-o-ring, but I may also make my own with my Levenger index cards I have.
