i love when shows have Moments that you just KNOW the fanfic writers are gonna go nuts over. and i'll just be skipping over to ao3 to enjoy the whole bakery because there's so many cakes from one single line in canon
Okay okay, hear me out; was watching an episode of SPN and lore hinged idea of the day(episode) was Zanna. Romanian folklore for good spirits that help children? IE Imaginary friends.
— please note I didn’t do further research on Zanna after this; I do plan to but my focus in it is probably gonna be gone tomorrow so please— if SPN fucked this folklore up or my supes basic understanding is very shitty; feel free to correct or add more to it ^^
Now imagine this:
Damian, off somewhere in the manor but easily findable— like the library or something and talking to Danny. Like Danny just shows up and for whatever reason— only Damian can see him. (Whether this be by Danny’s design or it’s some sorta magic thing).
Well anyway, Damian and Danny are chatting and anytime someone gets close enough to try to figure out who Damian is talking to— and they see he’s literally talking to an empty room?? He glares if he spots anyone. It started around the time Bruce was stuck in the timestream. Dick chalked it up to possibly zanna or just the kid making up an imaginary friend to cope with his dad being dead. Dick absolutely mentions it to the others when it doesn’t stop AFTER Bruce is back. Hes just like “be chill guys— he’s a kid. “He’s healing after all that assassin trauma and it’s cute— let him have his friend. “
He’s the only one that Damian has told about Danny. Like basic things
“He’s very knowledgeable about the stars. He glows. You remind him of his overbearing sister.”
And dick, clearly not coping well himself, just takes it as Damian trying to bond with him and encourages him. Doesn’t say one word about this “Danny” being imaginary.
I imagine Cass is like the only one who’s managed to see Danny but knows he’s not danger and Damian likes him.
I think this overly funny reveal would just be Danny appearing in front of the others and coaxing them to go to bed or like stealing food; and they spot him; register him as either dick or Tim, like at first glance because blue eyes black hair— (Like my cousin and my sibling used to have similar shades of hair and do still have the same body figure; so like without my glasses and when I’m distracted, I absolutely will mistake one for the other.) — and then their brain is like “wait no that isn’t right” and they think they absolutely hallucinated him because he legit disappeared right in front of them.
And when it comes to the reveal of “oh yes. This is my friend. Danny.”
Everyone is collectively losing their shit because what in the hell?!? Where did this kid come from?!? How did none of them find him out?!?
Fun illusion fact of the day because a convo I had has me thinking about it: You can see the future through illusions!
...No, seriously, it's not that tough.
See, the fourth dimension, time (Not to be confused with the 4th spatial dimension), is always there whether you can perceive it or not- So all it takes is a simple copy-paste and a push to your perception to peep a couple minutes forwards.
There's a bunch of mental training you should do so you don't tear yourself apart trying to move in this funny new direction or pass out, but like, the actual process itself? Easy peasy melon squeezy.
FAQ:
"Is this something you do often?" No that'd be Boring
"Why don't all illusionists do this?" They kinda suck ngl I'm the only one that does it right I think
"Doesn't this kind of invalidate Oracle magic entirely" Well yes but actually no. There's like two things this actually has over Oracle Magic. First, you don't need to solve their prophecy to figure out when the bus arrives, and second you can do it whenever without their preptime. What Oracle Magic does better is look far into the future (Illusioning too far forwards can permanently fuck up your perception of time something fierce), determine which outcome is most likely more accurately (Only applicable to worlds with multiple timelines) and put all the risk involved on the oracle in question instead of you.
“I hate the miscommunication trope” “the worst trope by far”
There is nothing better than the pining and wanting while not being able to say it. Seeing characters want something so badly but are unable to just say that they want it, wether out of fear the other doesn’t or simply because they have this internal conflict of do they or don’t they. The simple things they can’t bring themselves to say out loud. Seeing the click of realization/confirmation as they lay it all out in front of them, as a simple few words could unravel them completely. Or “Your love passed me by,” the missed opportunity the unfortunate time spent waiting when there was no reason, THE WASTED TIME. They could’ve been anything else if they just said it, if they’d let themselves have it.
Tav x Durge: Mortal Enemies
Fanfic idea of Tav and Durge who met but they were each others nemesis prior to being tadpoled.
Tav was the heroic adventurer foiling evil Durge's plans and fighting him every step. When Tav wouldn't die Durge vowed to murder him as a sacrifice to Bhaal, he eventually got really obsessed.
Durge was like the reoccurring villain in Tav's story, someone that kept hunting them down but they met Durge each time with a real fight.
Then Durge lost his memories and Tav is lost when their most dangerous enemy is suddenly nice and wants to do good.
Even better if Durge goes 'I don't remember anything about my past but my gut tells me I could trust you and you meant a lot to me!'
its really funny but also full of angst potential when Durge realizes what they did to Tav or trying to do.
Bonus if they fall in love. Obsession reborn into true love when Tav encourages them to be better, who forgives them when they had all the right to exact their vengeance. Tav could be the only one who understands Durge and their past with the history they shared.
Butler is goading them into finally sinking their blade into their mortal enemies heart. Finally after all these years, their master can accomplish their life's goal. Tav is abt to punt him into a river
Tav would be so proud to see them redeemed. Lowkey enemies to lovers ig??
In another life Tav would find Durge's corpse in Orin's room and place a flower next to them. Having hated him but felt bad for him all the same. Recognizing he was set up to fail by his father. Probably one of the few if only people who would have shown such a gesture.
my favorite genre of fic is traumatized person navigates a healthy safe environment for the first time. experiencing the comfort after hurt for the first time
