Each day felt the same

It wasn't that it was bad

You became a routine

It was enjoyable

Like two kids watching the clouds roll by

Blankets in the grass

Time didn't exist

But that day when I had to leave

I felt an ache

One I hadn't felt in a long time

Almost unrecognizable

And then I knew

Something changed

To say I am proud of my son would be a woeful underestimation of my feelings. Today he graduated from high school with a 3.3 GPA and several offers to play basketball in college. These offers came even though he was underestimated by the people who were charged with believing in him and nurturing his abilities on and off the court. Takura is more than an athlete. He is brilliant, brave, intelligent, creative, hardworking, strong, capable and above all else kind, caring, giving, non-judgmental and witty. Today I celebrate his accomplishments not only as a student but as a human being. His life matters. I encourage him to go forth everyday and be greater than he was yesterday. I encourage him to evolve. So I dedicate this post to him. Evolve my son in love, kindness, compassion and equity.
