How many times have we given up on our fellow man? “I’m done with them.” “They just don’t get it.” “They’ll never change.” “I’m over this.” . I have been struck recently by how many times God could have given up on me and said the exact same things. I have to repeatedly learn the same lessons and ask God for forgiveness because I screwed up ... again. But God. (Basically the best phrase ever.) But God, in His great mercy, will never leave or forsake me—or you. (Hebrews 13:5) . In the same way, “because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ” (Ephesians 2:4ff). Confession: I'm no good at waiting. For Friday, for my birthday, nothing. I ask God for patience, and He graciously (and often promptly) gives me opportunities to practice it. . But let's be real: I want patience without having to work for or practice it. Counterintuitive, eh? I'm impatient to get patience. . But how much more is God patient with us! "The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance." (2 Peter 3:9) . God is the master and creator and epitome of patience. He watches me learn and re-learn dependence upon Him ... and is still patient. (And I need to re-learn a lot of things, because obvz I didn't learn it well enough the first time 😂.) But He is truly the Master I need to learn from. Yoda's got nothing on Him. . This verse is for those days you might be feeling like Katherine Brooke in "Anne of Avonlea": "Bend in the road? There's no bend in my road. I can see it stretching out straight in front of me." 🛤 . False (to switch gears and borrow from @rainnwilson's Dwight Schrute). We have no idea 💡 what God has in store for us. Our timelines ⌚️may not be His timelines, and life may not look 👀 like we think/want or the world 🌎 tells us it should (and this may drive me crazy), but as straight as the road may go for a while, a bend will come. It will. God has prepared good things for those who love ❤️ him, and he is able to work those out. We can't waylay his plan (thank goodness). . Oof. This was a tough (convicting) #verse to see right when I opened the @youversion app. So I did a little digging in some commentaries and appreciated what I found on the @desiringgod website (link in comments): . "But someone will ask, “Should I not desire dinner? Should I not desire a job? Should I not desire a spouse? Should I not desire the child in my womb? Should I not desire a healthy body or a good night’s rest or the morning sun or a great book or an evening with friends?” . And the answer is no — unless it is a desire for God! Do you desire dinner because you desire God? Do you want a job because in it you will discover God and love God? Do you long for a spouse because you are hungry for God and hope to see him and love him in your partner? Do you desire the child and the healthy body and the good night’s rest and the morning sun and the great book and the evening with friends for God’s sake? Do you ever think about what each of these components actually looks like? . "With all your heart" - your passion, your excitement to see a certain person, wanting to be with them constantly and learning more about them. . "With all your soul" - the very core of who you are is caught up in your Creator and points back to him. . The verse in Deuteronomy this harkens back to - part of the #Shema - refers to "your strength" or "your might" next, in a slight counterpoint to Jesus' "your mind" here - maybe intentional, maybe a translation issue, who knows. But either way, your whole being, inclusive of your intellect, should love and worship God. . #christianity is not a faith calling you to chuck your brain at the door; God created your brain and expects you to use it. He stands up to reason because he created it. #instadevo

But the difference of victorious Christian and a defeated one is VISION. Ano ba nakikita mo? Sa situation mo at sa patutunguhan mo? Do you see grace and love and God's hands leading you to a fulfillment of a promise? Or all you see is a sea of problems without a clear end? If you see the latter then it would be difficult for you to have an attitude of thanksgiving. But what you see is Jesus.. Then thanksgiving is possible. Kasi maiintindihan mo na lahat ng ito may patutunguhan. Magulo man ang lahat, aayusin ng Panginoon. Masakit man pinagdaraanan mo. Makipot man and daang tinatahak mo. Asahan mo ang Diyos: tuturuan ka. Itatama ka. Itutuwid ka. Papatawarin ka. Mamahalin ka. Patatagin ka. Patitibayin ka. Igigiya ka. Pasasayahin ka. Hanggang marating mo ang katuparan ng pangako ng Diyos sa buhay mo.
