7.21 Institutional Memory
Episode:
• I’ve been putting off these past 2 episodes cause I don’t wannna finish but I miss it too much. Plus I can always restart the series (again) (no no I cannot I need to take a break! (no I don’t ♥️)
• oh this is a CJ centric episode
• isn’t this when CJ tells Danny she doesn’t see a future with him or something?
• lmao Margaret backed into the door hard to prevent CJ from going in
• “I touched his hand. We shook.”
• “highways” oh I just got a Pluie wolves only roadway flashback
• ahh this is when Andy asks for a pardon for Toby
• Will wants to run someone named Ina Horton and I thought of Horton Wilde the dead dude he got elected
• it’s incredibly stupid that CJ can’t turn the job down. I mean she can and she does but the whole “I’m the president elect and I’m asking you to serve and I’m not gonna take no for answer” is annoying as hell.
• why does CJ have secret service? Is it because she’s a more public figure than Leo was? And has gotten death threats before?
• “I’m not moving to Oregon.”
“I’m not moving to Oregon.”
• ahh CJ visiting Toby
• “We had it good there, for a while.”
🎶 We were something, don’t you think so? 🎶
• their whole rapport over chicken and ski lifts is so cute
• wait did Toby kick CJ out cause he knew if he didn’t something would happen between them? Or because it’s just too painful for her to be there?
• also I can’t believe that’s the last time we see Toby!! Why wasn’t he in the finale!!
• “I want us to talk because I like the sound of your voice.”
Podcast:
• “And in this episode, as the Bartlet administration reaches its final days, Will, Kate, and C.J. all say, “Ok. What’s next?”
“That’s right. And I think the final phrase of this episode is “What else?”
“I was like, Danny, oooh, so close.”
• A lot of these plots are undercut by the flash forward at the beginning of the season. We know CJ and Danny work it out and get together. The scene where Danny asks CJ if she sees a future with him and she doesn’t answer seems like the relationship is over. like there’s no setup for them to reunite. So that scene is diminished by knowing what happens already.
We also know Will ends up being a congressmen.
• CJ and Kate’s relationship has evolved throughout this season and season 6 and in this episode you can sense the depth and closeness of their relationship. They can talk about relationship stuff and work stuff and CJ can get mad at Kate and snap at her, but it doesn’t ruin their friendship.
• This episode subtly hints at Toby and CJ’s attraction to one another. It’s in between their dialogue and rapport, and Toby even suggests that’s what she came to his apartment for.
• “I feel like Danny must be somebody who has gone to a lot of therapy. And C.J. has gone to none.”
• The West Wing is shaped around duty (“Theyre all about duty.”) and serving your country and CJ is the one character that breaks off from that by deciding not to continue on to the Santos administration.
TWW Rewatch: Institutional Memory (7.21)
• I’m so close to finishing *sob*
• man they really crammed CJ and Danny getting together in these last few episodes huh
• CJ doesn’t want to continue working at the WH but she also isn’t willing to meet with other companies...she might just be in denial about it all
• oh hi kate
• “Don’t stare!”
“Can I meet him?”
“I wanna meet him!”
CJ and her children
• “Teeth?”
“You’re fine.”
“Eww.”
lmao
• when CJ mentioned highways I immediately thought of the wolves only roadway
• “He may not have people skills. He’s used to talking to machines. You can’t hold that against him.”
lol @ our future. It’s only gonna get worse.
• Andi?
• ohhh shes gonna ask CJ if Bartlet can pardon Toby!!!
• the president’s asking you to serve, so you’re not allowed to say no? honestly what kinda logic is that?
• CJ has secret service? Since when does the chief of staff get protection?
• oh god the look on Danny’s face after he asks CJ “you don’t see me in the picture do you?” and is met with silence was terrifyingly sad
• CJ AND TOBY!!!
“I missed you.”
“We had it good there for a little while.”
“Yeah, we did.”
• the hug!! ♥️
• I still love Toby so much ok I know he did a “bad thing” but idc it’s not canon in my mind so I still love him
• and this is the last time we see him!! 😫😭
• also the whole typo in the constitution bit is hilarious lol
• “I want us to talk because I like the sound of your voice. I just wanna talk.”
Ugh I want that!!!
ahh!! ok I liked this episode but I was kinda sad it didn’t have Josh or Donna or Jed or Abbey or (a lot of) Charlie cause it’s the penultimate episode!!
But!! It was a CJ centric episode and I love those!!
This episode seemed like it had a lot but also not, because every situation was about winding down: transition memos, packing offices, new job offers. Ah I’m crying ☹️
I honestly didn’t start to kind of like Will until after the election, but I like him and Kate together. And I loved the look on her face when she realized he would be a good candidate to run in the Oregon election. So it looks like Will’s moving to Oregon, but Kate’s not (“I’m not moving to Oregon” 😂😔) so we’ll see where that goes.
Highlight of the episode was CJ going to visit Toby. The whole typo in the constitution was great. As was cooking a chicken and working the ski lift.
“I’ve missed you.”
“We had it good there for a while didn’t we?”
Their friendship is so real and pure I almost cried.
The ending with CJ and Danny!! He just wants to talk with her!! God I remember back in the first season he would follow her around and ask questions and flirt with her, like he was so smitten and just wanted to talk with her! And he still wants to talk! because he likes the sound of her voice! 😭 So what if she’s not good at relationships? He’ll train her 😉😂
Also the ending:
“Do you wanna work at the white house?”
Shakes head.
CJ, girl, do what you want to do because you are smart and capable and beautiful and can literally do anything!! If you don’t wanna work at the White House, take the Hollis job, and talk to Danny because YOU DESERVE TO BE HAPPY AND LOVED GOD DAMMIT
