April 8 is the International Roma Day.
Please remember & learn about the fate of ca. 23,000 Sinti and Roma who were deported to German Nazi Auschwitz camp. Around 21,000 were murdered there.

To the Romani Nation – On April 8th, Roma Nation Day
Today, we raise our voices together—Roma and Sinti, brothers and sisters across the world—united by blood, culture, and an unbreakable spirit. On this day, we do not ask—we demand recognition, dignity, and justice.
We remember the dark chapters of our history. The Holocaust, or Porajmos, was an attempt to erase us—to silence our songs, burn our homes, and kill our people. Over 500,000 Roma and Sinti were murdered by the Nazi regime. Their names are etched into our hearts, and their memory fuels our fight. Never again means never again—for any of us.
We are a nation without borders, but not without a homeland. We have a right to land, to safety, to cultural preservation, and to be treated as equals in every society we live in. We are not invisible. We are not temporary. We are home wherever we stand.
To our governments, to Europe, to the world: recognize our rights, acknowledge our history, and respect our future.
To our people: stand proud. We survived. We resist. We rise.
Amaro drom si zuralo.
Our road is strong.
8 April – Roma Nation Day
We Remember. We Resist. We Reclaim.
On this day, we honor our ancestors.
We remember the Porajmos – the Holocaust that tried to erase us.
We remember the chains of slavery, the camps, the silence, the centuries of exclusion.
But we are still here. Alive. Proud. Unbreakable.
We are Roma. We are Sinti. We are a nation without borders, but not without belonging.
Today, we say clearly: We can no longer rely on Gadje systems that have failed us.
For too long, we’ve been spoken over, policed, displaced, and forgotten.
We know now that survival is not enough.
We need self-determination. Our own land. Our own security. Our own future.
Roma Nation Day is not just a celebration — it is a declaration.
Of memory. Of pride. Of power.
We rise not in shame, but in strength.
We do not ask — we claim.
No more silence. No more waiting.
Our time is now.
#romaday #8april #diadelpueblogitano #internationalromaday #internationalgipsyday https://www.instagram.com/p/CcF5iToD7eR/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
#CelebrateLifePodcast EP36 Bahtalo o Mashkarthemutno Dive e Romengoro! (Link in bio) Today is 8-th of April, #internationalromaday I had a chance to speak with #selmaselman she’s a #roma woman coming from #bosniaandherzegovina She installs creativity, but also identity aspects into her artwork. As a daughter coming from a family that earns their living from collecting and selling iron, Selma uses iron and reusable materials to draw on. In her art show Mercedes Matrix she takes her family with her and they break a Mercedes in front of an audience in order to question the labor and capitalism in Roma settings and beyond. She is an active player in the media scene. From being popular in media interviews to promote her work online, she says that as a #romawoman has been targeted by a lot of hate speech from white people. Selma’s mechanism to #fighthate is actually to ignore it to the point where haters become conscious of their own unhappiness. • This episode of the podcast “Young and Diverse“ is produced as part of the Reporting Diversity Network 2.0 project in cooperation with the podcast Celebrate Life.
