I have made a new pact with myself to tag things without an image description as "#no id" so that I can revisit them when I have the spoons to add an image description, or so my followers can filter on that tag if they need only described posts.

I've been hesitant to do it because I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings by reblogging with that tag. Also, I'm usually on mobile and I've yet to figure out a way to see if an image has alt text on mobile. Anyway, I am putting my faith in those I reblog from to realize that I mean no offense in tagging something as "#no id." It is simply intended to be descriptive and maybe I'll revisit and add an image description in the future.

I like reading Danny Phantom (and Danny Phantom crossover) fanfiction. (Among others.) There is one thing seen regularly among fanfic writers though that makes things difficult.

I have a reading disability which makes reading Zalgo text (or similar font types) visually difficult, and I use a text-to-speech program 95% of the time (because reading disability, I hear and comprehend faster than I could ever read the same thing) and text-to-speech really does not like Zalgo and other non-standard font-types.

However, I’d be lying if I didn’t say the use of Zalgo text and similar font and formatting choices doesn’t lessen my enjoyment of someone’s work. There have been a few fanfics I simply had to give up on because too much of the story’s dialogue was incomprehensible to both my eyes and my text-to-speech program. It kind of sucks.

not sure if this is a dumb question or if you've answered it before but why do you put the "description" thing under the bottom of every photo post? like i just saw it being reblogged from someone else and was curious bc personally i wouldn't reblog something once it had that text added [just because of personal preference on my own blog] but yeah. is there a specific reason you do it or?

I add descriptions to photos to make them accessible to people that are blind, have low vision, or even slow running internet/using the app. Tumblr doesn’t have an option yet to add alt text to images that can be read on screen readers and such.  As someone that’s deaf/hoh, its really frustrating to me not to be able to understand what people say in videos, so in a way I can relate to the struggle of the internet being accessible to everyone.
