So, since the full-on Youtube boycott didn't work due to... reasons*, and they seem to be trying to regroup at the HQ, I felt I may as well ask Tumblr, where should they go from here?
Wat should the "Boycott Youtube" crowd focus on for their cause given the resounding non-success of their boycott?
Fighting the larger age-verification/net censorship push driving YT's bullshit
Finding ways to drive some cracks into the YT monopoly by promoting alternatives

These two are my general ideas on paths, and while the first one is significantly more urgent due to... :[gestures towards the current nightmare]:, it also has a lot more people already working on it than the second one, which could use the attention and at least some people in that space trying.
But, that quandary's what the poll's for, so vote away, and remember to reblog to increase the sample size!
*Namely lacking any big orgs directly on their side (Like the black church was for the Target boycott, for example) but, more importantly, the lack of viable enough alternatives to direct people to because YT has such a monopoly on user-generated video.
You can shop at a store other than Target for Charmin and Transformers, but most people don't post on other sites because there's no way to get money or an audience there.
ngl a lot of internet 'activists' are fake and im tired of pretending otherwise.
yall will claim to support SA survivors but then make prison rape jokes.
yall will claim to support trans people but then misgender someone after they do bad things.
yall will blast people for not boycotting chic-fil-a but then buy a latte from starbucks.
yall will claim to care about people's mental health, but then tell literal teenagers to kill themselves because they said something off color or call everyone with schizophrenia or npd "evil and abusive".
yall ask others to let them know whenever they say something bad but then have a fucking temper tantrum whenever you're told not to use certain words that happen to be slurs.
I wrote about the problem with online radfem discourse for my substack and you can read it here :) it's about whether you can still call yourself a feminist if you do anti-feminist (according to radfems) things like shaving and wearing makeup!
Quick reminder that nobody is obligated to reblog your activism. People often have a variety of reasons for doing so, such as
It's triggering for them
They don't want to risk spreading misinformation
They don't want to get involved in discourse (X creator supports X issue but not Y issue, therefore they're a hypocrite and a monster)
They have irls who follow them who they don't want to broadcast their political opinions to
Their blog is story/gimmick based, and a post about activism would break their readers' immersion
They put all of that stuff on a sideblog
They just don't want to have politics on their blog
None of these reasons are invalid. Anyone who says otherwise is just trying to start discourse and should be email. The correct response is to kungpowpenis them. Hope this helps
Stop being a keyboard warrior. Like just stop you won’t change that one persons opinion. Everytime you want to get into a fight online do something or donate to the community you are fighting for.
Volunteer or become involved in your local queer org.
See what local Masjids or Synagogues (or even openly progressive churches tbh) need right now. Is it time, energy, or donations? They might even just want to become involved in more community events.
Which means be involved in community events! Work with your local library! Your community center! Or your food bank!
Existing and explaining to people why you think doing this is the right thing will change more minds than typing on your keyboard ever will.
And, to be a bit mean, please don’t use the excuse ‘I don’t have the time/money/energy etc’
Every single org I have worked with will try to make things accessibility for people. Every org will value any amount of time or money you give. Also I guarantee you can find an org that has at least SOME low energy events (the org I work most with often hosts movie nights)
Go out and connect. They would love it if your activism only went as far as the internet.
Hi please know that this post got me images of IRL Gore.
I am obviously not showing the asks here at ALL.
The fact i told you internet “““activists“““ to actually protest and help Palestinians by buying Charity, or maybe actually volunteering ended with me being told to blow my head off with images of dead children in my asks (including someone’s severed arm: with the lines “Do this you fucking zionist nobody wants you throw yourself off a fucking palace until you are nothing but mush“ <actual quote) is fucking insane.
I just wanna know: where were you guys in 2016 and 2014 when Israel attacked Palestine the same way they’re doing now? Why weren’t you boycotting the Eurovision and EBC for letting them compete in those years? Why aren’t you Boycotting for Armenia’s atrocities? Or even Russia’s Censorship and Dictatorship before 2022?
I know why.
Because it wasn’t POPULAR.
IT WASN’T COOL TO SUPPORT A COUNTRY.
YOU ARE ONLY DOING THIS BECAUSE:
It gives you cute little internet points <3
It gives you red hearts, it gives you a way to show yourself as a good person! <3
Yeah. THAT’S MY FUCKING STATEMENT.
now go call me out on tumblr.com or whatever i’m already here. Very pubblically.
I am unable to donate due to not having the means. But what can I do for people other than boost their requests? Is there anything at all? I hope so. What can I do?
