I will permit it to pass my for you page and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the external eye to see my algorithm. Where the rage bait has gone there will be nothing. Only I and Muppet gifs will remain.

Hi there- reblogged this on another post, but with everything going on right now, I thought this could use its own post. If you’re reading this, chances are, someone who made something you loved and who you maybe looked up to, did something horrible. I’m actually something of a Fandom Old- well, not really, but I’ve been cancelled at least five times and had ten different creators turn out to be scumbags, so that’s gotta count for something.

Now, this may be the first time this has happened to you, and I’m SO sorry, it will not be the last. So, here are a few things I like to do in any situation similar to this.

Remember- you will get through this, and things will be all right. I know it doesn’t feel like that right now, but it will be.

Remind other fans that things will be all right. They’re feeling what you’re feeling right now, and I bet they could use someone in their DMs right now who gets it and will never judge.

Feel however you feel. You might know logically that you’re feeling something petty or irrational or inappropriate or even unfair, but as long as you are not hurting anyone, then that’s okay.

Be kind. To others, to yourself, to strangers, ESPECIALLY people who show up to your blog to say deliberately provocative things, they’re NEVER expecting kindness, the look on their faces is always PRICELESS.

Make stuff, because this thing belongs to you just as much as it belongs to whatever prick made it- fanfics, fanart, moodboards, headcanons, playlists, everything. (“But Liz, even bad ones?”) Yes, especially bad ones, bad ones are my favourites.

Take a step back if you need to- draw something else, write something else, and remember, you’re not surrendering, you’re giving yourself time to reset and come back refreshed; maybe draw a picture of Perry the Platypus, he’s cute.

Unplug from the drama. Whatever it is, whatever the bigotry or crime or whatever it is, decide it’s out of your hands, whatever it is it’s very upsetting, and if following every awful thing point by point is too much, you don’t have to. Look at me- no you don’t. You are under no obligation to know every detail, just that it was awful and made lots of people very unhappy.

Be good. Be kind, everything will be okay, and I will see all of you VERY soon.

Hey Ant, I wanted to dm you to ask a semi personal question?

I'm currently in a fan project that's being targeted by a Medium "journalist." Said journalist has been hounding the mod team for weeks about us removing someone due to concerns about their behavior. No matter what we do, they won't leave us alone, and my attempts to issue a formal request to stop communication has just led this person to doubling down.

I don't care if I'm targeted, but the staff is getting stressed over this, and I wanted to ask how you would do with this? I've already reported the articles to the Medium staff yesterday, as well as tumblr posts made by the person. Thanks!

In a situation like this, I would argue that you should report any cases of targeted harassment, but also, as someone who has been similarly hounded in the past, there's actually very little you can do, without knowing the specifics of the project and individual.

The best advice is to ignore it and hope it fades into the background.

i am saying this to baby phans:

you are young, you have developing critical thinking skills. you are in no place to speculate the morality of adults who have been in love longer than some of you have been alive. they are the only ones who have any say on their relationship, and what they think about each other. don't pick apart the things that dont make you smile. internet, or not. it can be hard, but, thats what a journal is for. as you are young, i reccomend having a private account (or just sideblog where you dont use tags for algorithm reasons) for your negative thoughts, or, to keep it in the drafts. tumblr is honestky one of the best journaling devices out there. i have been on the internet for as long as ive been an artist. listen to me. i am wise. i was groomed on discord by a jjba fan (so i know detest the media), accused of being 'problamtic' for my 'yaoi art style' when i was 17, my first social media was DEVIANT ART. i was the youngest of four, born in 2004, but i grew up around old media. how many of you watched archvies weird mysteries, sherlock holmes in the 22nd century, or phil og the future? phil of the future is awesome because it doesnt have sound effects. use the internet wisely. it took me years to master the art of the tumbrl post. years to get to the point where i think every post i say deserves to be archived for anyone to love, forever. if you are a teenager, that is not the case. you are a teenager. have a private life. the only people whos opinions of you matters are the people they love.

Bit of advice if you ever think about joining a Pokemon subreddit.

If you like ANY of the current Pokemon games...don't join r/Pokemon

Find r/(whichever game you like) because r/Pokemon will bash you for saying positive things about any of the games the hivemind doesn't approve of. I literally just watched a bunch of people attack someone for liking ZA

(Also years ago on my old account I got banned for "trolling" for posting a joke about how Chien Pao's Shiny would be Tigger.)

Today I learned that you can filter out things in a YouTube title by adding “-insertword” at the end of the search. Seems to only work with single words no spaces unfortunately. Either way, I didnt know this until now, so I’m sharing so that someone else may learn

Some bits of internet advice for you, from a 29 year old who has lived a lot of life online so far

• if streaming isn't owning, pirating isn't stealing.

• there is no item of greater value than your time and attention. Ignore, delete, and block the trolls. (And report them if they are threatening)

• if you're under 18, don't share your exact age. If you're over 18, share at least your approximate age.

• read something in full at least twice before replying/commenting on it with your opinion.

• things that aren't for you, aren't for you. They deserve to exist anyway.

• if you have been online for hours and haven't directly interacted with something/created something: either find something to create/directly interact with, or log off. Be aware of how much passive consumption you do.

Now go out there and surf the web, kids
