One of my favorite part of family road trips is how there are designated exits we have to take.

It doesn't matter if we actually need gas/food/bathrooms, we have to pull off. It's a rule.

I love having the layout of a gas station in a different state memorized. It's so much fun 😁

The North Shore Line ceased operations less than a year after this photo was taken, in January 1963, due in large part to commuters choosing to use the new Interstate highway system instead of rail transportation to get to and from Chicago. This is represented in this photo by the Edens Expressway (Interstate 94) bridge in the background at right.
