My friend Paul Sng @dispossession_film is crowdfunding a documentary on Britain's current social housing crisis. There is no shame in being a council tenant, but the passing of the Housing and Planning Act (whereby the government will be working with the private sector to demolish social housing and build private rental property where they stand) will make rental accomodation unaffordable to many who also can't afford to buy property.
