Tim Tebow was on Rachael Ray...
Now, I’m not partial to Tim Tebow. I don’t know very much about him at all, except he was a NFL quarterback. (I didn’t even know until I watched the show that he wasn’t one any longer.) But he said something quite amazing, that really touched my spirit. Rachael had asked him what it was like switching to baseball after being in football, and he said that he was glad to be able to live two dreams. Then he said:
“People do something based on the chances they have of succeeding. Since when were dreams based on the chances? Dreams are based on something that’s placed in your heart, and not based on the chances you have of succeeding.”
I think that’s the disconnect between my 17-year-old self and me now. Now, I base my dreams on my chance of success, as people have been doing to me since I graduated college. But I need to reconnect with what I feel in my heart, which has always been a bundle of chaos and confusion, but which I think I need to take a more serious look at now. Because when I was 17, I didn’t care about my chances of succeeding. Like Rachael Ray said in response to Tebow, I “had vision” regarding what I wanted to do with my life, and at some point I just stopped going for that vision.
I think the vision can/should change, but I think I’ve placed too much emphasis on the change, instead of the work towards the vision.
