Apparently TechCunch/ Yahoo News has a problem with Cyberpunk 2077 being too faithful to the tone of the original Cyberpunk tabletop game. (original)
They don't exactly go "c'mon! It's Current Year!" but I feel like they really wanted to.
This bit is especially ironic, considering Mike Pondsmith, the original game's designer, is a black dude.
And he consulted on CP2077. The whole point of the 77 Voodoo Boys is that they took back their cultural identity from the mostly-white posers the old gang used to be in the original TTRPG.
That’s right. The old version was a satire of cultural appropriation. They were probably making fun of wiggas.
I like how the article complains about race and gender issues and identity still being a thing, when trans SJWs complained because previews had a sexualized trans woman in an ad who was implicitly just as accepted - and exploited - as anyone else.
They were literally complaining about equal treatment because they didn’t like the treatment.
And frankly, cyberpunk as a genre is defined by (technological) exploitation and self-interest, IME. If you want that to go away, you don't actually want cyberpunk.
I'm not sure you even want My Little Pony.
PS: Also, gangs use religious themes in their beliefs and images all the time.
