Kindle Fire the iPad Killer? Not So Fast.
The Kindle Fire is a shockingly good product for a shockingly good price. For 0, you get a screen with a higher resolution than the iPad, with a dual-core processor and an Android OS. In other words, it’s a Nook, only cheaper, and it will likely be a hacker’s delight. But for all the buzz, it’s not going to be able to tackle the iPad in any meaningful way. Here’s two reasons why. It’s More An “Amazon Instant Access” Device Than An Actual Computer
Based off of BlackBerry’s PlayBook, which didn’t do so well, the Kindle Fire is largely designed to be an ereader/media streamer first and a computer second. For example, it’s not going to have an email client right out of the gate, and there’s no word on whether the web browser will be fully-featured enough to be useful.
We get that there have to be some tradeoffs, especially at a budget price of 9. But it’s still a little disappointing, and odd, especially since Amazon obviously wants to shoulder in on Apple’s action.
It’s Got Some Big, Nasty Walls Around It
Something that’s going to cause real problems for the Kindle Fire is the fact that it is, first and foremost, designed to traffic Amazon content and only Amazon content.
For example, if you want to use Netflix on your Kindle Fire…well…have fun hacking the OS, because Amazon isn’t going to let a competitor to its Prime streaming service anywhere near its tablet. This is probably going to be a deal breaker for many shoppers, especially since the competing Nook can have a microSD card slipped into its port and turned into a fully functional tablet.
It’s an odd strategy coming from Amazon, which had embraced other platforms before: for example, you can get the Kindle software for Android and iOS. We’re not sure it’s going to help it woo away would-be iPad shoppers.
But, we’re also sure that it’ll be hacked to be a fully functional tablet within hours of release. We’ll keep you posted.

其次,虽然是基于Android系统,但经过亚马逊的深度定制,无论从产品外观还是内置软件来看,Kindle Fire已经和其它Android平板电脑有足够大的差异,再加上四年来Kindle所积累的足够高的品牌辨识度,使得Kindle Fire与Playbook、Galaxy Tab或联想那个从名字上看来就山寨感十足的乐Pad已经十分不一样,Kindle Fire是一款“Kindle产品”,而Playbook、Galaxy Tab等只是一款“Andorid产品”。足够强的产品辨识度,是iPad杀手必须拥有的特质。
第三,基于亚马逊平台的内容和服务,将成为Kindle Fire最核心的价值。以全球最大电子书销售平台作依托,除了完胜其它Andriod平板产商以外,对苹果也造成了极大的压力——尤其是当亚马逊不停发力促销电影电视甚至音乐等影音内容时,苹果最核心的内容业务感受到了威胁。
看起来iPad似乎有些危险。那么,Kindle Fire真将成为iPad杀手吗?
其实不会。首先,“这个产业如此之大,所以将产生许多的成功者。”贝佐斯在Kindle Fire发布会上说,“当我看到类似Kindle Fire这样的设备时,我想到的是,我要成为成功者之一。”市场足够大,Kindle Fire即使成功,也不代表iPad会失败。二者可以共存。

第三,根据市场调研公司Forrester Research预计,到2015年之前,全球平板电脑市场年增长率将达到51%,即到2015年时将有二亿人持有平板电脑。如此巨大的市场,对于无论是已经出售了四千万台iPad的苹果还是刚上调至五百万台Kindle Fire预订量的亚马逊来说,未来可拓展的空间还相当大。未来四年内发展至两亿用户的市场,没有任何一家企业有能力独吞。
苹果不必过于担心Kindle Fire是否是iPad杀手。苹果真正该认真思考的问题或许是,具有强大图书内容优势并且推出了成功的电子阅读器以及即将成功的平板电脑的亚马逊,是否会冲击苹果最核心的数字业务:已经卖掉了一百五十亿首的——音乐?
Kindle tablet, no iPad killer
It's an exciting time to be in the tablet market. HP pulled out. Apple is losing Steve Jobs. No one wants the Blackberry Playbook. Barnes and Noble is pushing out the Nook 2 before the holiday season. But - breaking news (not really)! Amazon is coming out with their own tablet and it should be great! Now we just need the Android marketplace to be beefed up and have some sort of filter so that the crap apps don't get in.
Amazon's tablet won't be the iPad killer that people seem to be lusting for but it's a step in the right direction. People enjoy the iPad because of the simplicity of design. They're not selling iPads to the super techies (although they are to the fanboys), they're selling them to the people who love Apple or want something that's very easy to understand. Until the Android marketplace get's it's ass into gear, it won't be killing anything except time.
Amazon’s Jeff Bezos will take the stage in New York on Wednesday to unveil the company’s exuberantly named new tablet, tipped as a cheaper competitor to Apple’s popular-but-pricey iPad. It won’t supplant the original Kindle e-reader, but will be a fuller-featured alternative, supporting streaming video, music, Web browsing via Wi-Fi and a range of apps built on the Android platform, TechCrunch reports. The price remains to be announced, with most speculating it will go for $250 or $300—placing it between the $139 Kindle and the $499 iPad 2.

Amazon Fire tablet just made Apple ipad more desirable. If you're saving up for an ipad you're not going to say I'm getting the Fire tablet instead, you'll keep saving. All this talk of it being an ipad killer was all hype. Most consumers will see it as a cheap tablet. Very few will perceive this as a better tablet than the ipad. Amazon fire is smaller and cheaper, but not better. It's not even a viable alternative if you want 9.7" tablet. Amazon obviously think Apple has made the best 9.7" digital tablet money can buy. Amazon's offering is definitely not more appealing to musicians, especially guitarist. As a guitarist It's great that I can use Apogees jam with Garageband on the ipad and create music with it, you can't do that with a Kindle Fire Tablet. To say Amazon's Kindle Fire touch is a direct competitor to Apple's ipad is like saying a Toyota corolla is a direct competitor to BMW's 5 series. It may sell well like Corollas, it serves a want, but It is not an ipad killer. Amazon essentially made the Toyota Corolla of tablets.
