getting an ipod completely changed my relationship with music

short rant //

base info -

officially started using an ipod oct '25, and 6 months later, it has redefined how I consume and listen to music.

I've had 2 - a 1st gen nano and a 5th gen classic; both from fb marketplace and $50 >.

Yes, it's annoying sometimes not having specific songs, but it's nothing that youtube or spotify (w/out premium) can't satiate, and by the time I can get to my laptop, through modding and faster download apps, it's super easy to add songs on.

I have also changed out the battery on each no problem, and have modded using rockbox and Dmixer for songs, which are both free and were relatively simple to install and use for someone with little to no coding experience.

how music changed for me -

Not having to pay for a music subscription is awesome

Eliminates any form of ADs, AI, or distractions, super simple user interface which can be customized through modding even further

The elimination of access to search outside of the uploaded content has allowed me to be a lot more personal and deliberate about what I'm listening to while encouraging me to explore. If I want to listen to new music, I can bulk dump new albums and it forces me to listen to them instead of having choice paralysis, and reverting to the same playlist over and over again.

All in all, super goated piece of tech, especially awesome because they work with no wifi and have a super long battery life.
