tale of nine tailed first impressions
i liked the world, characters and storyline. some of the lines were too cheesy but some of them were good, comedy was reasonable. i liked how they included a little bit of twist throughout in different places, they were predictable but not boring. the colours and props, makeup, styling are all top notch in my opinion especially that of kim bum and the umbrella. i like how the umbrella looks like a flower if you look at it from the top when its wet. i think that was intentional. the cg was okay too, i like the eye effect. i also liked the action scenes they were pretty good which was unexpected since i havent seen kim bum or lee dong wook do too much action before.
my favourite character so far is definitely irang. second is yuri and then jia and then iyeon. and the secondary cast was good as well i liked the grandpa tree ? thing ? totem? its called jangseung in korean but idk in english.
now the things i dont like, some of the acting was awkward on almost all of the main cast which leads me to believe its a directorial problem. and the diction was off as well on some parts with lee dong wook and some other minor characters. (this could be a directorial problem as well) jo boah delivered in that aspect though that was clearly one of her fortes. it seemed to be kind of predictable, even the twists were as i said before and i can see how the story is going to be told and in which order though that is a bit of a plus for me because i prefer to know the bad things that are going to happen first hand so im ready. its not something that hasnt been done before though it is a bit fresh to see a male gumiho, the concept of gumiho itself is genderless and therefore could be portrayed by male or female and the gumiho concept has been done a lot in kdrama history. takes up a lot of the part in regards to immortality in kdrama.
overall it was worse than i expected probably bc i had big expectations and there are flaws but they can be ignored if you choose to, it doesnt get in the way of enjoying it too much. im hoping the next episodes do better but this wasnt so bad its just that my expectations were so high.
