The sound of water crashing all around her made her open her eyes. A scream escaped her lips as she noticed the body in the water. So familiar. So real. She frantically moved from the water to the shore as fast as she could. She looked at her hands no blood, but there didn’t need to be for her to remember what happened. All these years ago, she had pushed this memory from her mind, and now it was captivating her. Iris noticed her parents running from the house with her aunt. She ran towards them crying. She didn’t know what was going on, why this was happening.
The look on her parents face said it all. “Please...I’m so sorry...I didn’t do this.” But she did. She knew she did. Her father went to deal with the body as her mother stormed into the house. Iris followed begging for her to listen. For her to hold her and tell her it’ll be alright. Why did she do this? “Mom--” I
“Don’t.” The hand went up. “You’re a monster!” Her mother yelled. “A killer...you have a demon inside of you.” Iris was crying trying to shake her head.
“Please...I’m your daughter.” Iris outreached but her mother smacked her hand away. “You are not our daughter. Our daughter died out in the lake today. You are a monster.” Iris noticed her father walking in. “Dad--please!” She begged, but her father looked at her as if she was a monster.
“The curse.” Her aunt finally spoke. “It is true.” Iris looked over.
“Then you know, this isn’t me! Please!” Her family wouldn’t believe her begs. Little did Iris know was that she was tossing and turning and making small cries in her sleep. This was a nightmare, but it felt like she was stuck back through time to relive this memory.
