Irl horror movie yo✌
My new creature 🎃💀
this one's for the horror lovers.
in the basement of my grandparents house, there's this lovely wooden door.
despite there being multiple rooms, there are no other doors in the basement, only this one. it leads to a different section of the basement, the part where my grandmother keeps her jams and jars and all that.
whilst most of the basement has white walls and tiled floors and bright daylight lamps, the area behind the door is different. it still has a dirt floor, covered up with some planks, and there's a total of two lightbulbs in the whole place, - one for each of the two rooms. one of the lightbulbs is burnt out, and in order to turn on the other light you have to enter and walk around the open door, be consumed by the shadows as your hand stumbles across the walls looking for the old fashioned, soviet era light switch, and then you'd shuffle into the middle of the room and squint at the other end, the dark end, really hoping no one's there.
as a child, i was terrified of this place, but also strangely drawn to it. maybe it was just my dumb ass trying to prove to myself that i'm not a coward, that i'm not afraid, but i'd always volunteer to go get a jar of strawberry jam or something whenever it was needed. despite being convinced of the place being haunted, or having some sort of boogey man living in there, i'd actively go out of my way to encounter it.
now that i'm much older, and haven't been home in a while, i decided it would be interesting to revisit the place.
the room itself, albeit creepy, isn't too bad. the door is what concerns me.
it's probably just for heat retention or something like that, but there used to be holes in the old wooden door. holes that are now plugged up as much as humanly possible. there are no holes in the walls of the basement, but when you open the door slightly, a draft can be felt. it's a weird place, a weird door. they've had the house for 30 years now. you'd think they would've fixed it up.
i might go down there and spend some time before i leave the country again. just to see what it'd be like. i don't feel particularly enthusiastic about it, but i feel this pull of curiosity.
You know you live in the right neighborhood when you’re walking at night and come across this.
Hi! Big fan of your work. I was at MCM in May and went to the Rusty Quill panel and I was going to ask this months ago but kept forgetting about it. I ask with much concern (I might have misremembered your exact words, I hadn't slept, maybe my brain just made this up): was the thing about the body parts getting mailed to the PO box true or was it a joke?
True, happened more than once and a key reason we don't accept post any more.
torilena may fields 🤔 grl, taf?!
