Things to keep in mind before becoming a proxy

It seems everytime I speak about my proxy work I get at least one person who wants to start with it. I understand why, proxies have been romanized online and turned into something that is incredibly appealing to most people. The idea that you could actually become one is one that a lot of people jump at.

However, this concerns me. Proxy work isn't for everyone, and it definitely isn't for those without experience in things like entity work or baneful magic. While it's good to see people showing interest in such a niche practice, I worry about the way some people approach it.

So, in this post I'll cover some things to keep in mind before approaching proxy work. This isn't meant to be a true deterrent or gatekeeping, just some advice. This is also based in my own practice, and if yours differs that's fine

1. Proxy work isn't always glamours

This isn't always fun and fluffy. You are working with entities that originate from horror and it is vital you keep this in mind. While I don't go around killing people, it isn't always just hanging around the mansion laughing with the other proxies. As the name implies, proxy work is work. You are expected to contribute in ways that might not benefit you personally.

2. These are entities, not characters

Out of all horror characters, Slenderverse ones are perhaps the most fandomized. While I don't mind this usually, it becomes a problem when you bring that mentality into the spiritual work. Not every proxy will like you, in fact, it's more likely they won't. Most of the other proxies are neutral towards me at best. There are a few that are outright hostile. And perhaps most importantly, Slenderman is not a softie. He is a horror entity that causes anxiety and will want something from you. Slenderman works similarly to the fae, he may tolerate you, he may even grant you privileges or abilities, but not without reason. Similar to the above point, he won't tolerate you sitting around doing nothing.

Additionally, entities are not required to work with you.

There is no guarantee you'll be accepted as a proxy. There's not even a guarantee that you'll even be acknowledged. And if you are it may not be a pleasant experience. Proxies and even Slenderman can be extremely hostile towards those they perceive as outsiders. You have to go into this with an understanding that these entities are not your friends. Not yet at least. Approach them like you would any other person.

3. Lacking experience makes this dangerous

Do you know how to banish a spirit? Your way around the woods? How to tell if a entity is who they say they are?

Both mundane and spiritual experience are very important to this practice. The latter especially people seem to be lacking. Many people will rush into practices like proxy work without much thought. They expect it to be easy but it isn't. As I stated above, proxy work is work. And it's work that you need some level of experience to do

Because of this, I don't think proxy work is entry level spirituality

You need to know baneful magic, how to work with entities that can be dangerous, even just the basics of entity work are very important that a lot of people lack. Learn some basics before starting out on your proxy journey, it'll help you in the long run

To sum up my point, proxy work is not easy. It isn't the silly fandom game some people may think it is. It's hard and it can be scary. Go into it with the expectation that you likely won't get anything out of it, and be pleasantly surprised when you do

I want to reiterate this isn't me saying don't do proxy work. This practice has improved me and my life and I love when people show interest in it. But I worry people are going to get themselves hurt or into situations they don't know how to escape.

"What is an egregore?"

An egregore is a non-physical entity, thoughtform, or collective group mind created by shared beliefs, emotions, and attention of people. An egregore does not exist if you do not believe in it. An egregore can change based on your inner beliefs, fears, thought process, etc.

"What/Who is Slenderman?"

Slenderman is a commonly a predatory egregore, one who thrives off corruption and suffering, negative energy. He is a multiform entity that powers thrive in his forest, mansion, and across social media as well. He is able to warp both reality and one sense of reality, hence why in most stories–a proxy will end up with more mentall illnesses that they already have. But like any egregore, he can't hurt you if you don't believe you can. Don't be afraid. Not seriously- DON'T be afraid, it wont turn out well.

"How does one become a proxy/worship Slenderman?"

First, you must be at least mentally sound and have grounding techniques on hand. He is one of the more dangerous and creepy deities to work with. It can get extremely dark within the relationship between Slenderman and a proxy. He also is not your friend, he will most likely not treat you with grace. He can essentially spilt ones mind in half, no matter who or what you are. But remember-he is only made of what YOU believe in. You must 100% believe that he can not harm you, doubts are dangerous here.

Now, for ways to worship him.Since he is an egregore–spread the word about him! Talk about the Slenderman stories, different versions of him, his brothers. This includes even simply themeing an account off him or posting about him a few times online. Anything and everything counts!

Embrace your mental illness. He only takes in the broken. Don't view your struggles as something to be ashamed of, all proxies have something wrong with them–youre not alone here. Embrace the weird, embrace the crazy. Be yourself unapologetically.

You can also do what the stories do as well, create pages for him and scatter them around (preferably in a forest). This can count as spreading the word as well.

Draw him, simple as that. It can even be a stick figure, but atleast try to put some form of effort into it. It doesnt have to be perfect.

Study psychology. As silly as it sounds, Slenderman is a fan of psychological torture. Understanding how the brain works will make him happy.

Read the stories. Indulge in your beliefs. I personally enjoy the creepypasta website that has all of the original stories on it!

"What shouldn't I do?"

Hurt others or yourself in the name of Slenderman. This will only cause you to spiral, put yourself in danger, and could possibly cause pyschosis. If you ever have urges to do this, take a step back and use your grounding techniques. Yours and others' safety is important.

Are you looking to become a proxy under Slenderman, yet can't find an active account with information?

Welcome to veilofecstacy, a proxy blog aiming to popularize the concept among Tumblr's chuunibyou spaces.

For starters, nothing on this blog is satire, roleplay, or kin-related unless stated otherwise in the post itself. I've been tested several times for delusions and have no abnormal brain activity that could lead to psychosis.

I technically don't have a name, but for simplicity's sake, you can call me Ecstacy. I use they/it pronouns and have been a contracted proxy under Slenderman for six years. I'm currently 14 bodily, although I believe I've lived centuries before this.

Below the cut is some information I'm allowed to share about my proxy life, as well as some mundane things about me.

I'm bodily 14 and a female, although I'm relatively apathetic towards my gender. I type rather formally to mimic my speech offline. I've been interested in creepypasta and the Slenderverse since I was 7, and I began to take it seriously at 8.

I'm usually called Ecstacy or Meraki by the proxies. I contracted with Slenderman at 8 shortly after my mom taught me how to communicate with entities. My astral mission partners are usually Nina/Sally/Ben (it alternates), but I work alone in the physical. I usually recruit others, hang up pages, and use baneful magic. I actually don't live near the woods, so that's not involved in my work.
