Magoo warms up for the #ironman Race in the beautiful #Hawaiian island of #Kona. Pomaika`i #thewiblets #ironman2014
I woke up NOT an Ironman
Well, I woke up today NOT an Ironman.
I am indeed in one of the most beautiful places on earth...Lake Tahoe...with some incredible people...my wife and best friends...but I am still
NOT an Ironman.
I could be mad.
I could be mad at the Ironman race crew the race director and hey, maybe even God for wrecking my dream and the dream of 1000's of other athletes.
But I'm not.
I'm as happy as a pig in mud. OK, so I had hoped too be a pig in mud with a finishers medal around my neck, but I'll take the pig in mud and shoot for the next Ironman in Cozumel (yup...I registered because that's what Ironman folks do...we don't quit).
But for those who are mad. For those who are steaming pissed at all the wasted time, money, resources and missed work for the cancelled race...let me propose that you direct your misplaced anger HERE. It's a recent news article about the fires and it mentions the alleged arsonist who started these fires. The fella who allegedly caused this mayhem and our dreams to be (momentarily) crushed. Or we can choose to forgive...it's your call really.
One will also note in the article the number of homes destroyed. So for those of you who are pissed about time, money, resources and all the other 'stuff' we lost...well...we get to fly HOME. Many of these folks here in the Tahoe area have had their homes destroyed.
Let that sink in for a sec.
WE GET TO GO HOME...and live to tri another day.
And finally, if this two mentions don't help, well, how bout just put on the shoes of the race director and his staff, who had to make this gut wrenching call. We wake up NOT Ironmen and women but they wake up and I imagine will ask themselves, for the foreseeable future, if they did the right thing. Have any of you had to make a tough decision in life that you KNEW would impact others but you also KNEW was the right thing too do...and did the right thing knowing you'd be chastised, pissed off at and would forever be the 'bad guy' in the eyes of others? Yeah...imagine that for a sec.
Then do this.
Go register for another Ironman. Do it. Show the world that not only are you strong physically but that we are strong mentally and let this go...have a beer...let it all out...then go sign up for the next IM and grab this SOB by the horns...
And one day...ONE DAY...we (at least me) will wake up an Ironman.
Simple words...Iron meaning
"You got this you have trained and stayed true to your plan! You WILL BE AN IRONMAN! I will be there at the finish line to witness this moment for you!
I Love YOU!
ME"
My wife sent this to me earlier today. It's a simple 3 sentences...but the power and love behind them may be all I need to take the next step.
Yeah...
And knowing that she'll be at the finish line? Well that's like a cherry on top...Ironman Lake Tahoe, Sep 21st.
