Hey, let’s talk about the contrast of titles of the chapters that reflect Azz and Clara’s thoughts on Iruma’s Scala.

Azz’s is “I’ll follow you”, like a subordinate, someone who should stay a step behind Iruma, while Clara’s is “I’ll come along”, like a friend, she’s saying I’ll always be beside you.

In his chapter, Azz chooses to help Nova only because it’s what Iruma wants to do, and he can do no wrong. Clara, however, relates Nova’s situation with her own and decides to help on her own accord. She is on the same wavelength as Iruma, they both get why Nova wants to do what he wants to do.

Azz basically puts Iruma on a pedestal, as someone who deserves to rule, disregarding Nova’s views about his race (it makes sense. He’s the son of a crown. Out of the three, he’s the one aware of the harsh ways of demons and their politics). Clara has a much simplistic but sweet approach towards him, she sees him as a friend and an equal, as a person. He’s not the future demon king to her, he’s only her Iruma-chi who has made life better for her.

I love this contrast so much! This also gets reflected in the honorifics they use for Iruma, Azz going for -sama, Clara choosing -chi. One shows respect, while the other is pure endearment.

This is in no way a criticism of Azz-kun. No, what I sense here is potential for character development. I want to see Azz himself as an equal to Iruma, and stand beside his two soulmates. Meanwhile, I will appreciate his resolve of always being there for Iruma, whether or not the rules of Netherworld are in their favour.

I want to write a silly fanfic set in the future where Iruma is married to Ameri, Azz, and Clara (and is the Demon King too but that’s not super relevant). Like a year after the wedding, Ameri suggests that she, Azz, and Clara each try a different human seduction method, since Iruma still seems slightly shocked by the bluntness of demon seduction tactics. However, Ameri’s idea of human seduction comes from manga, so she suggests various silly manga tropes. Ameri does the “dinner, bath, or me” thing but phrases it wrong so Iruma doesn’t get it and picks dinner. Clara puts on a maid outfit but is under the impression that maids are ultra-powerful entities that swore oaths of honor to their masters so you can guess how that would go. Azz tries cat ears but…it’s Azz. He nearly dies of cringe while also being painfully sincere (Iruma thinks it’s cute tho). I wouldn’t actually write the sex because idk it would feel weird, even though they would be adults. Mostly it would just be an excuse for silly demon-human relationship fluff, canon be damned.

Clara: My chapstick, Iruma. Did you steal it?

Asmodeus: Clara, for the love of devi, not this again.

Iruma: I- No, I didn't steal your chapstick. We use the same chapstick.

Clara: No, there is absolutely no way we use the same chapstick, because it was only sold on one Etsy shop two years ago and they discontinued it, and I loved it so much that I bought the last of their stock, and I keep it in my freezer so it doesn't go bad. It's been discontinued for three years. No one uses the same chapstick for three years. So unless you've been eating a whole fuck ton of something that's flavored like chocolate and popcorn, you absolutely stole my fucking chapstick.

Iruma: Chocolate and popcorn?

Asmodeus: Why do you think it got discontinued?

Iruma, on the phone: Uh. . Hey, Asmodeus, i uh, I’ve been stabbed.

Clara: WHAT? WHERE ARE YOU?

Iruma: Wait- You aren’t Asmodeus. Sorry- I didn’t mean to call you-

Clara: NO, WHERE ARE YOU? IM COMING THERE. IM NOT GOING TO LEAVE SOMEONE ALONE THATS BEEN STABBED.

Iruma: Well, remember when Asmodeus made a romantic dinner for me?

Clara: Iruma, they microwaved you a pizza.

Asmodeus, at an awards show: Well, first of all, I’d like to thank Iruma, the love of my life, for telling me Clara was going to win so don’t bother to prepare a speech.

Asmodeus: It was difficult, so you’ve just given up. You might fail, so why bother trying?

Clara: Exactly.

Clara, to Iruma: I told you they’d understand.

Iruma: Hi.

Asmodeus: Hey, did you do what I said? Did you tell them?

Iruma: I did.

Asmodeus: And what did they say?

Iruma: “Thank you.”

Asmodeus: You’re totally welcome. What’d they say?

Iruma: They said, “Thank you.” I said “I love you” and Clara said, “Thank you.”
