So I was looking at Adolf Hirémy-Hirschl’s souls on the banks of acheron, and, I don’t know very much about art history in general or this painting but

That’s a right hand on a left arm?

…right?

Like unless I’m massively misinterpreting what I’m seeing, that’s an elbow, which would only be visible on the left arm. Unless it’s not supposed to be an elbow and is just a weird shadow? Maybe the hand is meant to be backwards? Based on the rest of the anatomy I think that’s supposed to be the right arm though, meaning just the elbow is wrong. Or, not wrong, just confusing. I’m confused.

If anyone has any insight into this, send help
