Lewis having 105 wins is amazing unprecedented showstopping, but watching actual races it makes blood boil how him not getting a win was not because of his error or technical issue, but because of criminal teammate behavior or that teammate getting preferential treatment. In Monaco alone: in 2007 he was not given equal fuel loads with alonso, in 2014 rosberg ruined his quali on purpose, 2015 fuckass pit, that i will not put past toto was due to wanting a german from Monaco to win again 🤬

the most amazing thing about lewis, is that 105 race wins is already a video game number, but if you watch his races you realise actually it should have been at least 140

20 years in the game and Lewis still impresses me with the way he's able to exactly identify in which direction to develop the car. look, i can also tell when smth wrong with my car, but to be able just in a year in a completely new setup to pinpoint that the problem was in brake discs is mindblowingly smart. every engineer who worked with Lewis has stories where he helped iron out the smallest details of the car, because engineers don't drive the car, the feedback needs to be accurate and targeted, for them to do their job properly. it's so infuriating how little f1 comms and pundits talk about how smart Lewis is, even his fans like to say that he is a driver with the best "natural ability to drive". there is nothing natural about driving an f1 car.

last year a video was going around where charles was impressed by how quickly lewis could do maths in his head and this skill was crucial to overtaking max in canada. he was explaining in one interview how he had to calculate power deployment of his own car during a lap and to move on max when max's power was at the lowest and his "failed" first attempts to overtake him, were missions to see how much power max had on different corners. what's even more impressive he did it to the driver with the most powerful engine, while driving 3rd most powerful.

sorry for such an essay in your askbox 😭 but it makes me angry how interesting and good f1 media could be if they were not so racist and glazing max for how often and amazing he spins in his car 🫩

apparently this is the brake setup he always preferred, but he has been complaining about ferrari's brakes since he got there. he needs to be able to brake aggressively to make the most out of his driving style. but in any case, it's obvious this year's car is much more to his liking in plenty of ways. you could tell from the beginning that he was much more confident in this car.

yeah when people talk about him being "naturally" fast i lose it. there's nothing natural about all the work he puts into his racecraft, and the deep understanding he has of physics. which is obvious if people watch any races, but they don't. he is constantly doing math in his head, i don't know how he can do it, but he's keeping track of everything happening in the race and planning everything one two, three corners ahead. whenever the broadcast shows his radio messages you can hear his back and forth, all the strategizing that goes into how he plans each lap.

and yeah, i completely agree, f1 would be more interesting if they explained the technical aspects of the sport, instead it's something you have to figure out yourself, and lewis fans are luckier than most because he goes into great technical detail in post-race interviews. not that i think most f1 fans appreciate f1 as a sport, that's something that becomes more and more obvious the more i'm forced to share an online space with fans of other drivers.

ahhh this is hard. which is why it has taken me so long to answer.

i'm going to pick stuff that isn't really widely discussed, and going to leave out some stuff I do think it's interesting but common knowledge. i'd say in no particular order:

he liked bikes better than karts, especially motocross bikes, but his dad made him stick with karts. he obviously loves formula one, and he describes his years karting in italy as the best times of his life, but i often wonder how much of those idyllic italian memories weren't just having a friend for probably the first time in his life in nico, and traveling with him instead of his father. obviously i'm glad lewis is an f1 driver and not a motocross rider because i don't give a fuck about that in fact i think it's kind of boring. but i don't like to hand it to anyone's father, especially not his, who i don't trust.

he likes to read. he's mentioned it a few times, in the past. and I don't think he talked much about the kind of books he reads, but he said he liked to read before bed. people rarely talk about it but i think it's a fun detail.

at some point in either 2008 or 2009 (like that season wasn't bad enough) he got braces and they completely closed his tooth gap, thankfully braces are mostly a scam so it was back the next year.

he was mad about spa 2008 even years later, and with good reason. that was such huge fucking bullshit. i hate how harshly penalized he is, unlike everyone else. like for instance today, max called for a penalty, and lewis was investigated when actually max was the one who should be investigated for trying to push him off the track on purpose. another great injustice would happen to him at spa in 2014, this time nico's fault.

you can't trust him when he says "i love x country", because he says that about every country 🫶 i wish he only meant it for brazil and china but alas 🥀 I do think it's cute how he tries to speak a little of the local language whenever he's on the podium.

since watching the races from the brocedes era, what are some things you learned about them that isn’t talked about or typically perceived wrong in the fandom? 🐬

people really downplay how rancid nico was and how early. it started as early as 2013 when they weren't fighting for anything. but by bahrain 2014 he was saying in the podium that "he hated coming second to lewis". monaco 2014. SPA 2014. that was crazy, i couldn't believe my eyes.

lewis was horrifically downbad in malaysia 2014 need to find all footage from that weekend to understand why he was so into nico. makes everything else that would happen even more heartbreaking.

no one talks about how 2014 demanded huge weight loss from every driver. lewis dropped 6kg. he was tiny.

the media was brutal to lewis during that stretch of races he was struggling. everyone was out for his blood. he was being called too emotional to win every other weekend, and everyone talked about the huge mental advantage nico had on him etc etc

the reaction from everyone to what he did in spa seemed to really rattle Nico, he didn't expect that Toto and Niki would be so furious with him, he didn't expect the audience to turn on him so violently. as always, lewis feeds on love and adoration, so that ended up turning into an advantage for him because everyone just rallied behind him after such a big injustice. which ofc, was a feeling brewing since monaco.

i really wish he would. it's the same story with every teammate he's ever had. they follow whatever they're told to do, lewis follows his experience and knowledge. they copy lewis, lewis gets screwed. it was the same thing constantly with nico. the good thing about this, is that i know he's so furious, and having all kinds of flashbacks. i hope the team making him pit and lose position to george will end up being a blessing in disguise because he was acting too happy about being among those italian clowns. his side of the garage seems solid, he should focus on them, and marshal the troops. let the other side figure it out. charles needs his 12 hour beauty sleep doesn't he? he should go to bed early and leave the engineering meetings for the grown ups. he won a championship in a german team with german shareholders, who all wanted his german teammate to get it. charles isn't even italian. he did it twice and he can do it again.

Not just Max fans who say Lewis wanted to kill Max in Silverstone, Horner pushed this narrative to hurt Lewis, they actually openly accused him of attempted murder and you can imagine the abuse that followed.

But Max deliberately crashed them out and as a result put his whole car on Lewis's head which would have actually killed Lewis without the halo. "That's what you get" Max said before even knowing if Lewis was okay, we had no idea how bad it was until Lewis answered Bono, he couldn't even get out from underneath him properly and the tire kept rolling over him with the weight of Max' car, it was terrifying and Max' first instinct was to be vicious, not concerned.

And all they did was tell Max to not deliberately crash into Lewis in Abu Dhabi to win or they'd penalize him. Because they knew that otherwise he would. That's when they said something. And when he couldn't crash into him and Lewis humbled him immediately, they had to resort to different means.

They rigged the whole system for Max and he put the cherry on top by telling Lewis to get over the threats and insults from the dutch, saying "no" to his face when Lewis asked if he'd consider to kneel in the netherlands and explained the meaning of BLM to him (!!!) and downplaying his fams homophobic and racist insults. Max was so hateful and Lewis still tried.

Lewis had some of his most stunningly impressive and competetives drives in 2021, it was his most fierce season and the one that should have been record breaking for all he had to endure, I can't rec ever watching this season despite of how much of a beast he was in most of those races with all odds against him. It's sickening! And after all this Lewis congratulated him with grace when he seemed barely in his body and was so broken down. Sick.e.ning.

I know it started with horner lmao which is hilarious why so many people believed him, obviously an uninterested party (and speaking of horner, 2014 looked soooo rigged in nico's favour in the beginning that there were rumours that lewis wanted out of merc, and since seb was struggling and already in talks with ferrari red bull was on that phone to get lewis, horner was one of the few people who was talking up lewis every race when nico was winning. never got what he wanted tho) but people wanted to believe him, while dismissing the actual footage of max hitting the throttle while on top of lewis' head. he should have been banned from the sport for life. but here we are. and make no mistake, the kind of favouritism max enjoys is moved by racism, because he was going against lewis, and he was the 'great white hope' no other driver ever got away with the kind of things max did and does. they were on schumi's neck over every little thing. schumi got called dirty for moves max pulls every fucking race, you do have to laff to not just start shooting everyone in f1.

ultimately, max has made his bed, i think what awaits him is really a nelson piquet like future, where his accomplishments pale in the face of his bigotry, which will end up being the thing he's actually well-known for. the racist fans have other white drivers, and when lewis retires there won't even be another black driver for a few years, the yaoi fangirls are not loyal there are other sports other guys to rpf. he'll be a washed up former driver financially supporting the entire piquet clan, who have probably lost all their money long ago in bolsonaro's political campaign, his legal defense, and in some evangelical megachurch or other. they're going to bleed him dry and he's going to end up having to be a sky commentator and i for one can't fucking wait 🫶

love when Lewis uses the" i don't remember anything and I'm to dorky so i don't understand anything haha" card and then tells some bullshit that contradicts it and nobody catches it... like a bimbo girl in high-school who hast the vest scores for some reason

the way people take his 'i have bad memory' gimmick seriously is very odd to me, nothing about him suggests he has bad memory, he just doesn't want to answer certain questions and that's the best way to evade them. i'm sure there's things he's forgotten about because he genuinely 100% could not care less, but the idea that 'oh there's just huge swats of his life he doesn't recall' no... he just doesn't want to talk about it.

lewis inhabits this weird space where everything he says is taken at once extremely literally but not seriously. people think he's always saying the truth, but that he doesn't mean or understand what he says, something very specific to all coverage about him. it's at once racist condescension, and him being perceived as 'vapid' for being into fashion. meanwhile guys like sainz and george are for some reason perceived as technically-oriented, or shrewd. when the truth is i have yet to hear any driver be as insightful or witty as lewis.
