I was walking up the stairs tonight and thinking, as one does, about Bucky.

“Not a perfect soldier, but a good man” means that, much as Bucky Barnes thinks of himself first as a soldier, the serum worked because he is fundamentally a good man.

And all of HYDRA’s other cases of applying the serum in the MCU (Red Skull, the other Winter Soldiers) ended in failure.

Try as HYDRA might, the only way they could get a reliable supersoldier was to give the serum to a good person and then put him through a regimen of torture and mind wipes. 

Both of those things (what they did to Bucky, and the effects of the serum on HYDRA volunteers) attest to the fundamental wrongness of the way HYDRA treats people: they only see utility.  Their system breeds perfect soldiers, not good men.

fascinated by the concept of aizawa only ever getting blackout drunk so that he never remembers he’s been drunk at all. where’s the fic where shouta wants to kiss hizashi whenever they get drinks, but sober shouta is completely oblivious to the fact that he has already confessed his love for hizashi & made out with him in the bathroom of a bar. & not ONLY that, but he ALSO does this every second saturday of the month when they get drinks.
