it kills me how that usefulness aspect of ishgard / coerthas's wartime culture is so all-encompassing that literally every ishgardian / coerthan you meet including ysayle is incapable of defining their own worth outside of some definition of usefulness and how all of them glorify dying for their respective causes

When Nidhogg is highly implied to be using the Dravanian feature of hyper-adaptability and physical response to the environment to force his children to grow up in a matter of years at most (it takes a millennium for a dragonet to mature, so how do you think he’s been able to replenish the Horde’s ranks multiple times? The down wyverns in the Aery hatch in a small and weak but mature form, ready to swarm you, so a lot of the dragons you've been killing may or may not have been children) though selective breeding which he canonically does bc Vishap’s lore straight up says he’s been selectively bred to be a siege weapon, combined with the fact DRG 60-70 straight up says with Faunehm that dragons cannot resist the calls and orders of their sires or else they literally go insane, lore that’s existed since ARR, and none of this is used to highlight the fact that although Nidhogg’s reasons are just, the damage he has inflicted on the Horde (his own brood) is just as bad if not worse than the Vault and just like the Ishgardians the Dravanian Horde is held in an iron grip they cannot escape by Nidhogg’s rancor, but it doesn’t matter bc the dragons are just enemies that exist for you to kill and you are not to question this unless it's a special named dragon or any dragon that isn't the Dravanian Horde

ishgard's vertical layout is so good no other city utterly nailed the sense of scale like ishgard did

#saint.txt #ishgardposting #like standing in foundation and looking up and seeing the different levels stacked on top of each other and the upper spires disappearing #into the sky and the clouds is so so so good it makes the place feel huge #in practice Ishgard is only two small areas but moving from foundation -> pillars actually feels like you've moved up all those layers #ishgard feels endless and massive and sprawling despite how vertical it is in the same way yhar.nam does #and I'm not just saying that bc they have some similarish aesthetics VHSFBVHSF #no other city nailed that sense of immersion for me

I think the horror of Ishgard freezing over and the reality of what that actually meant should be engaged with more imo

#saint.txt #ishgardposting #like. baha.mut first hit coerthas so hard physically it permanently changed the geography. entire pieces of land got shoved up and out #of the ground. the aetheric balance in east coer.thas has tipped in a way that has the earth itself *lifting* from the ground #and forming sky islands like the sea of clouds.#and then the aetheric balance tipped to ice which means in what was probably only days if not just hours coer.thas went from a temperate #probably mid-spring or summer into permanent tundra and permafrost. it happened so fast ysa.yle’s backstory is abt running #*from the avalanches that were going to bury her and all the other coer.than refugees alive.*#it happened so fast that it’s *the* reason that brought down an already-crippled Dusk Vigil.#like what happened to coer.thas bc of baha.mut is absolutely horrific

anyways my friends activated my conlang brain and I've made smth insane as usual

red is influences, blue is Elezen-family languages, green is like a mix bc I see the Alliance cities as having a trade language (that critically is limited to them).

I see Duskwight as a separate language from Black Shroud Elezen (but sharing a lot - easy enough to learn for those speakers). Coerthan and all its derivatives are a whole different language under the Elezen umbrella and isn't mutually intelligible with BSE. Because they split so early, they probably don't share much more than root words and etymologies; within the same family so not difficult to learn for other speakers of Elezen languages, but very distinctly different.

(also I'm not listing them but the branches extend to include other diaspora Elezen languages)
