Isogai and Chiba are basically the Sun and the Moon in Class E

In which the sun brings hope (Isogai), the moon provides comfort (Chiba).

And by sun and moon, I mean in terms of how they each look after others in their own way, since they're the primary caretakers within Class E. They're both such kind souls that are just so patient with others.

To both of them, people come first.

Isogai is a leader that brings everyone together towards a common goal. Rather than spotting a weak link in the team and getting rid of them, he instead tries his best to understand where they're coming from so he could connect with them and thus, form a sort of solidarity.

Chiba is a reliable figure that others can lean on at a time of need. Because of how aware he is of his surroundings and what others are feeling that he would notice things that most people tend to miss, he is able to quietly look after those who are suffering in silence.

I think about that time when everyone was so cautious of Puey at first because the kid is a professional killer that had nearly harmed one of their classmates (Kurahashi). But Isogai immediately volunteered to watch over him the second Korosensei provided the option to do so. He wanted to understand Puey, wanted to know what his motivations are, and wanted to be able to connect with him so they could later work together as a whole along with the rest of the class.

To Isogai, Puey is a friend.

But naturally, when you're at the front doing your best to bring everyone together, it's so easy to overlook the ones who are silently suffering in the back.

Especially with someone like Karma who is very good at putting up a nonchalant face just after suffering a loss. He wasn't even showing any bit of signs with his actions, yet Chiba somehow could tell that he was feeling down. More even, rather than just trying to cheer him up with words of encouragement or so, he tried to lift his spirits up a little by prompting him to taunt a flustered Korosensei... and it worked.

It was a moment that was so easy to miss, but that's what makes it amazing.

However.

Being so patient and people-oriented, Isogai and Chiba faces similar cons when prioritizing the masses over themselves.

Isogai though has a bit more backbone... and by that, I mean a bit. He can tell someone off when he realizes that they're up to no good or when they complain about something that they had coming. But we all have to admit that when everyone comes together to cause chaos, he is powerless. The most he could do was to weakly express his disagreement first before he ultimately gets ignored by others... the tank and the parkour incident are primary examples.

Chiba, on the other hand, is the type to shoulder every burden given to him so that others can move freely without worries. When people rely on him too much, he will shut up and even make sure that nobody notices him struggling so that they could focus on their respective tasks. He doesn't ask for help not because he doesn't trust his friends, it's simply because he doesn't want to burden them with his own problems. Even the risk of wearing himself out will not stop him from moving forward. Because he cares so much.

Thank god that Korosensei was there to tell them that it's okay to rely on their friends when they find themselves in a pinch.

Isn't it amazing that even their seating arrangement makes sense when it comes to their roles in the class?

When the two caretakers are sat in front and in the back of the classroom, everyone is being looked after.

Everyday I think about how Isogai and Chiba are so similar in regards to putting others before themselves but their distinction is basically:

Isogai watches over others from the front.

While Chiba looks after others from the back.

I love how every IsoChi panel in the manga is always Chiba doing his own thing then Isogai comes to him, lays a hand on his shoulder, and be like "Dude you were great out there!"

And you could tell just how happy Chiba is receiving those compliments from him with how bright he's smiling whenever it happens.
