i just updated my masterlist and... my god it looks so much cleaner
With DAO’s 10th anniversary yesterday, I just realized that I wasn’t as late to the fandom party as I always thought I had been. My first oneshot was posted to my writing LJ in April of 2010 and my first multi-chapter fic was thrown up onto ff.net in May of that same year.
This is the same multi-chapter fic that I’m in the process of reworking, nearly ten years later. It technically has an ending that I’m going to leave up on the original site for posterity, but I don’t like how it feels after letting it sit for nearly a decade, especially since it was first finished prior to DA2’s release and now that Inquisition is out and I have my whole Next Gen Heroes kids planned out, I need to tweak the ending and several other chapters to reflect that. There’s a few things that I would also like to edit in general, especially now that I’ve started thinking about Moira and Nate more lately.
Anyway, all that rambling is just me trying to say that it’s never too late to finish a WiP or to unearth a finished story to give it a revamp. It could be that you’ve gained some insight into a character that you didn’t have back then or the way they’ve developed since doesn’t quite mesh with what you previously had written. It could be that your writing had improved since then and that piece that bothered you but you still left in or that part you really wanted to add but didn’t quite know how is something that you’ve gained some practice in doing and now you’re ready to tackle it. Heck, it could be that you just flat out missed these characters and pulling out an old piece may help you create a bridge for some new adventure to take them on.
