#JackedKirby - 31 Days of The Demon!!! 👿👿👿 For the next 31 days we will share pages/panels from Jack’s seminal horror series, The Demon!!!! There were 16 total issues, so two posts per issue should get us through the month... 👿👿👿 Day 31: This comes from #Issue16 of the series, published in November of 1973... for our last installment of “31 Days of The Demon” i thought it would be dope to include this opening full page splash that is a split-face view of Jason Blood/Etrigan that starts the book. The duality of this character is a crowning jewel in Kirby’s “writing” works.... he played so well between the two aspects of the character to weave a magnificent storyline. Also you gotta love the polite “see ya later” refrain printed by DC in the last panel (pic 2) on another series that was prematurely cut short on The King. #JackedKirby - World Of Fantasy... Kirby Style!!! 💥💥💥 Before the important anthology books of Marvel like Tales to Astonish, Tales of Suspense and Amazing Fantasy could give us our beloved Marvel superheroes of the 60s there was another anthology book.... this one was published by Atlas (the precursor to Marvel in name) and was called World of Fantasy. It ran 18 issues from 1956-1959 and featured many of the greatest penciling talents of the industry... Bill Everett, Don Heck, Ross Andru, Gene Colan, Dick Ayers, Joe Sinnott, Steve Ditko... and of course King Kirby! 💥💥💥 Kirby had just returned to Atlas after leaving over a debacle over the rights to Captain America and working at National Comics & Mainline comics... and he was just in time to immediately get to work in World of Fantasy! 💥💥💥 Jack did the pencils on the covers for #Issue16 (April of 1959) #Issue17 (June of 1959) and #Issue18 (August of 1959) featured in pics 1/2/3 of this post. #JackedKirby - Moving Day, Kirby Style!!!! 💥💥💥 Sorry we haven’t posted for a bit, but I (Mike D) have been moving from NY to NJ this past few days and haven’t had a shot to... however I’m going to remedy that right now with a “moving” themed post! 💥💥💥 This insanely beautiful double splash page comes from Mister Miracle #Issue16 which was published in November of 1973. The page features Big Barda, Scott Free (Mister Miracle himself maskless) and young Shiloh Norman, Mister Brown and Oberon hanging out in the teams makeshift headquarters. Scott is trying to teach Shiloh an escape trick, and Barda is moving a giant pick up truck with her bare hands!!! 💥💥💥 I love this image of Barda, how powerful she is and how effortlessly she is carrying that truck. I also love when Jack drew Scott in his full suit but without his mask.... such a striking image! #JackedKirby - Half Man, Half Demon... All Kirby! By 1974 Jack was finishing up one of his coolest projects, The Demon... and the funny part is that he never wanted to do the book in the first place. After DC stripped down his 4th World titles as well as OMAC, they asked Kirby for a horror themed series. He wasn’t really intrigued at doing this... but then he was struck with the idea for Etrigan and ran with it. The results are amazing! . Throughout the life of the series we saw many macabre things in its pages... monsters, witches, demons, killers... you name it, Etrigan fought it. But the coolest part of the series has to be the dichotomy of the main character. On one hand we have Jason Blood, resident of the 20th century and regular dude. But deep inside he possesses the power of Etrigan the Demon, a magical monster conjured by the great magician Merlin to battle the evil witch Morgan Le Fey back in the Camelot days! . Throughout the series we saw Jack balance the delicate game that exists between Etrigan and Jason’s existences. But this is never captured better than in the opening splash page of #Issue16 from January of 1974... which also happens to be the last issue of the series. . Jack does a masterful job of illustrating the duality of the two characters in one powerful headshot, Split right down the middle of the face. On the left we see Jason’s stern good looks and red hair with the white streak in it... and on the right we have the yellow skinned, horned head of Etrigan with his blood red eyeball. Even the background is split, with the fire behind Jason featuring considerably less Kirby Krackle then behind Etrigan. Catching Up

Desperate Housewives is nuts! Almost every single character is a different kind of monster including the main(ish) character Susan. Susan sucks! Despite the awful characters, I am enjoying the heavy-handed anti-suburban sentiment of this soap opera. The suburbs are dangerous and that's the main thing I've learned from the housewives of Wisteria Lane. Available on Hulu.
